Looked for the past hour... found nothing other than a medical journal saying that an Agmatine containing PAA showed antiviral properties towards herpes...

if this helps anything.

I've never heard this before. Any info? I ask because citrulline is one of my favorite supplements, but I have had cold sores in the past, though I very rarely have a breakout - less then once a year. If I break out, should I avoid citrulline until it passes?
Link sounds interesting. Will look into this. Especially since I found a cheap source of agmatineI'm the clever one, you're the potato one.

Nope. This thread was the first time I'd ever heard about it. Well, I was using 4.5g citrulline 3-4x week for awhile and had no issues. I've never taken arginine directly. I'll keep it in mind if I ever have an outbreak, or it one happens while taking citrulline - stuff is just too good pwo to give up unless I absolutely have too. Thanks for the info though.
Edit: That all said, if I had to choose between the two (Agmatine and citrulline) so as to lower my risk of an outbreak, I'd go with citrulline. Guess I'll have to pass on that agmatine.I'm the clever one, you're the potato one.

For what this is worth, I have spent a lot of time in the past avoiding citrulline and those types of things being a cold sore sufferer. A while back, i finally stopped caring and started trying all the pwos I've always wanted to try but was always too afraid to (hemavol, ritual, and now katana, for instance) even going as far as to regularly 1.5-2 scoop them when appropriate.
Long story short is that I have not noticed a difference in outbreak frequencies one way or another- then again I have since implemented an eating routine that provides me with good sources of lysine throughout the day (primarily from milk, kefir, Greek yogurt- protein-rich dairy sources really) which- proven or not, I believe may very well be beneficial.
Other genuine triggers (fyi) are stress, over exhaustion, and a weakened immune system. So, don't stress out, get your rest, and stay healthy!

Fair enough; but why would citrulline be worse then directly using aginine?. I'm not a huge fan of agmatine either way from what I've seen, but it's good to know. As I said, I've used citrulline in the past for an extended period with no issues. I know I can get them (cold sores), but I can't remember the last time I had an outbreak. If I get more l-cit or cit-mal I'll watch and see if it happens. If I notice I am getting them more, I'll cut back and see how I react.

Yeah I forgot that fact about citrulline. I did do a brief search and from what I read it seems to be a bigger issue for people who are more susceptible. As i said, I don't remember the last time I got one so I'm hoping I don't have much to worry about if I keep citrulline intake to <4g on workout days only (3-4x week). Thanks for the feedback.
