^^ Pictures look very nice but the design needs mucho improvement (no offense lol...I also do graphic design so I'm probably more of a critic than most)

Text doesn't have enough contrast from the background and it's very plain and boring...needs a stroke or something. Should have put a frame or feathered the pictures, the plain square edges don't do it for me. And I would have chose a different background, like the grass and trees.

Totally agreed on the design needing a lot of improvement. It is terrible. Wish i had put a thin border on each of the pictures. Couldn't really figure out what to use as a background... i made one with some plain purple background and if you think this is bad.....

As you chosing the different background.. you mean instead of using the blanket as an entire background you would have taken one of the backdrop (like the bottom left picture sans child) and used that?

Any of you guys know about selling images online?

What I'm considering for the future on my website is doing a whole photography section with my favorites, and people can purchase prints (like any photographer's website). Thing is, I don't know anything about printing and don't want to deal with the logistics myself, so I'm wondering if there's a company that handles it all and you just send your customers to them with the file and the specifics and they handle the rest for a fee.

You ever hear of such companies?

Also, a friend of mine wants a print of this pic for her living room. Any ideas how I can help her get that set up? (not sure why she likes that photo, but she does!)

There are probably a few others out there as well that handle the logistics. Most of these are annual fee basis but all you have to do is upload your photos and they do the rest. There are different price plans, some where you can just share your photos, to more expensive ones where you can actually set prices and make a profit.

First collage ive done so take it easy. Kind of wish i took the solo bear pic with some of the grass showing like i did with the bear + basket. All dat blanket on blanket action is no good.

Err yeah its a damn rabbit lol. Ill go back to the drawing board tomorrow and try to come up with something better. Going to 86 the rabbit in the lower right and go take another pic of it and the basket so i have a few more options i think.

I dunno if it'll look horrible but what if you arranged the pictures inside a Easter egg as it's an Easter theme? Ignore me if that sounds too cheesy though

The 70-200 is a work horse, way more flexibility. The IS isn't really that big of a deal unless you're going to be shooting weddings inside. So the first version 70-200 2.8 would do everything you could possibly want... Personally I don't see paying twice the price for IS, but that's just me.

I'd try something simple for the background, the one there is a bit too distracting and draws your eye away from the pictures. Shouldn't be afraid to crop a picture to make it fit evenly too if needed.

You could try something like this.

Yeah, the versatility is what sold me in the first place. It's great for hikes or if we go to a park/fair with the kids. I can hold my camera gear and any other supplies I need. Even used it in Disneyland.

Thanks again for this suggestion. The more I looked at it the more I wanted it. Ordered it when B&H reopened tonight. Hopefully I'll get to try it out Saturday.

That 200 F2 looks insanely cool. How many people will you be working with. I bet if there's a group of 2-3 of people that are a similar caliber to yourself you will get some incredible work covering everything at events

You mean Canon's 600EX-RT? The question is, at $550 per flash, do you need it?

Times one? Perhaps. X3? Not on my budget.

If I was buying into a TTL system today from scratch, I'd go with Phottix. Costs $150 less than the Canon. Everything is integrated. The interface on the Phottix Odin is vastly superior to anything from Canon.

Phottix Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger for Canon — $200
Phottix Mitros TTL Flash for Canon — $400

2 Phottix flashes + Odin = $1,000.
2 600EX-RTs + Canon ST-E3-RT = $1380.

That's $400 I'd rather spend elsewhere. Yongnuo costs even less again.

I checked them out too. But that's still pretty expensive for a third party item, don't you think? Anyway the Yongnuo you suggested X2 though is a perfect budget fit. I just hope they do as well with the upcoming flash as people say they did with the transmitter.

Well, so far I haven't had much success with the 400 mm rental. The weather has been absolute sh*t and the light is flat. And then even flatter. I did capture this when we had a couple of hours of sunlight Sunday morning, I had to get up at 6 to take advantage of it.

I have the lens for a couple more days, hoping to get out with it tomorrow. I've missed focus often but I don't know if that has so much to do with the lens or the lighting conditions. It clearly produces nice images with ample lighting. I'm impressed with the speed of the focus motor and the reach though. I don't think it would be a bad tool to have.

I rented the 400mm 5.6 back when I used a Rebel and it was tack sharp.

Sounds like an aperture issue to me. If you're going wide try shutting it down a bit and see what happens. You need to find it's sweet spot.

^When it's 5.6 wide open, you don't really have much to work with, especially at 400mm. They are generally tack sharp at f5.6. I don't think I've heard any complaints about it being soft.

Agree. Not sure why it would be missing focus unless it's pretty dark out. The pics posted don't look like they've been pulled for extra stops of light. Interesting. My suggestion would be to pre-focus often while trained on your subject and wait for the ideal moment to release, if you're not doing that already.

Phottix is more expensive than Yongnuo but that's reflected in the build quality. I've heard reports of battery doors coming off Yongnuo flashes but they've probably fixed that issue by now.

I bought all my Nikon SB-900s as grey market imports for around $400 each since it's not gear I would ever get serviced — I'd just replace it. I've dropped them during weddings from several feet onto concrete and all that happened were the batteries came out. Put them back in, turned it on, and was back in business. Made in Japan still means something.
