Lawd...I'm having too much fun at this. Haha. Trying to learn composition, developing an eye for good pics. I seem to be only taking macro/still-life and pics of my cat though. Anyway...some pics from today.

A quick iphone 3GS shot from the other day. Don't have time to get any of my exposed film developed and scanned.

Yeah this was taken outside around 3pm which is why ISO was at its lowest possible setting (100 i think).. aperture was f/2.8 from what i can remember.
I think it was taken with the 70-200 f/2.8II IS L lens (not sure but its either that lens or 85mm f/1.2L).. took this photo ages ago so can't remember exactly.
Edit: just checked.. it was taken with 85L at f/1.2Last edited by SwoleSikh; 03-15-2013 at 10:34 PM.

5d2's are around £900 and 17-40's can be got for approx £400 - so you weren't far off!
A bit of everything really, I don't shoot as much as I used to when I worked at the charity back at home. Most of my stuff now if either bits of events if I go to an event with the business, doing photoshoots for the business, or landscapes if I ever head out anywhere. I don't shoot half as much as I used to, hence me selling up (I had a lot of kit lol, d300s, 28mm, 50mm, 180mm, 17-55mm, 70-200mm, sb-600), and wanting to buy a smaller setup but higher quality stuff.
I still shoot Nikon in regards to film so I need to account for a 50mm 1.4 ai in my buying in stuff too for my FE.
I'm tempted to just get a 5d2, 40mm 2.8, and then if I ever need a faster lens I can just adapt my Nikon 50mm 1.4 onto it, I don't mind manual focusing... the 17-40 is tempting but it's big, and I like my primes.Manchester City Crew

Shot from an engagement couple of weeks ago. Was taken after the religious ceremony held at a temple. Their engagement reception was held next day in a function centre.

So if you're shooting raw, and you don't lose any dynamic range / clip highlights/shadows or whatever, can things like white balance, color, and exposure be edited in lightroom while maintaining the same quality as if you made sure to use all the right settings when actually taking the pic? Because I really don't wanna have to fuk around with getting the perfect exposure when taking pics.

You can change the white balance and make exposure corrections but you should always strive to get the exposure right at the time of capture.
So the latitude RAW gives you to make those corrections should be there to help you when you make a mistake or in situations where the DR exceeds the range of the sensor rather than be some kind of crutch for laziness or not giving a sh*t.

Not trying to be lazy. Still learning the ropes and all the info I'm trying to process at once is overwhelming lol. Ideally was hoping to focus on composition while taking pics then do some editing in lightroom. But I am for sure still trying to learn how to get correct exposure when taking pics.

DSLRs are still limited. We take a photo of a certain range in it's DR capabilities and bring up/down the info in post. In other words, if we want to take a photo of a contrasy scene with a DSLR that has poor DR, we decide whether we'd rather bring up the shadows more than bringing down the highlights and vice versa. That's why knowing how to expose for the scene is important. You can use Auto, only to find out that it gave you blown skies (that you didn't want) when if you did it yourself, you could have sacrificed some shadow detail to get some from the skies. RAW helps greatly, but it still means that you have to expose depending on the look you want.
That's where upgrading to a camera with better DR (if you really need it) or multiple exposures come in.
TL;DR - don't read it, probably doesn't make sense*****OFFICIAL MISC PHOTOGRAPHY CREW*****

Matrix metering (called evaluative metering on Canon) will usually get you pretty close but there will be situations where the meter is fooled and will underexpose/overexpose and with experience you'll identify when to dial in compensation or switch to spot metering.
There are some good books and online tutorials worth reading but there's really no substitute for getting out there and shooting, gaining experience through trial and error.

Hey everyone - bought a Nikon 85mm 1.8g and it is a great lens (it is cheap right now too).
So, I was shooting indoors casually, trying to get better at shooting, and noticed what I thought was a slight smudge on the glass. I barely used my thumb to get rid of the smudge, and well of course the result was an even bigger smudge . Does anyone have any good recommendations for getting rid of it?
I have Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipes (Pre-Moistened) and want to try and use that, but I don't want to ruin the lens somehow. I briefly read that some chemicals can ruin the coating of the lens, so I wanted to check with you guys first.

If it's just a smudge then get a lens cleaning cloth, breath some air onto the glass and wipe it off, like how you would clean a pair of glasses. And in future never use your fingers to clean your lens, carry a lens cleaning cloth with you (fold it and put it in your wallet or something) for when situations like this occur.
Some chemicals can yes, but if it's by Zeiss and they're made for cleaning lenses then there won't be any harmful chemicals in there.Manchester City Crew

What Tom said.
I'd recommend using an air blower to dislodge any grit and dust first and then a microfiber lens cloth (Leica's is the best one I've found) to clean the surface.
