Sports science is a term designated mostly to socialist state scientists who worked directly with their national Olympic team performing experiments to maximize results

The USSR had a lot of sports scientists. China does now. As far as I know the only place in the USA with that name on a degree is East Tennessee State University, where, you work directly with their athletic teams doing experiments. If you are 100% into performance I think ETSU is the best place to go.

A sports science degree is not going to have a ton of nutrition because its geared more closely to athletic training rather than weight loss and management. So you may want to first figure out which aspect of fitness interests you most.

Theoretically a sports scientist could be involved only in nutrition interventions for athletes and have no real involvement with exercise. There are sports scientists out there in socialist states that only focus on nutrition

And you have to be careful with terminology because athletic training is a profession dealing with injuries to athletes, not the same as training athletes

Many states like California still don't recognize AT's so essentially it's the same thing. In other words, no one is going to hire you to train their athletes unless you have the proper credentials.
