bringing feet closer together for deadlift one rep max?

    Hello everybody!

I just wanted to see what you guys thought about this. I am currently stuck at 385 for my dead-lift one rep max; I stand with my feet shoulder width apart and use a mixed grip with my arms right outside of my legs. Now I've been doing some research online and it looks like people are adding weight to their dead-lift by bringing their legs closer together in order to have less distance they have to move their legs to move the bar.

So my question is; do you guys think that bringing your feet closer than shoulder width apart to complete a one rep dead-lift max is a good, or bad idea?

closer stance actually increases the range of motion slightly.....thats one of the reasons people pull sumo

but play around with your stance and see where you're strongest, it can definitely make a difference. I like pulling with my feet fairly close together

Having your feet inside shoulder width will msot likely net you positive results. It will allow a higher hip starting position and a narrower grip, both of which should help.

^^^The bold is key I think. It is technically a greater distance, but should be from a more powerful position. That being said, I don't really change my form depending on the weight I am lifting, but you certainly could!

FTR, I don't change my foot position based on which set I'm on. I've just learned to tailor my foot position to a stronger DL overall and have left it that way since.

I actually think that is a very good point and answered the question pretty well.
