yes, for $30-40k you can get a decent brand new car, or a very nice 2-3 year old car..
brand new 3 series BMW, mustang 5.0, 370z, G37, STi, Evo, etc... around $35k
or get a new audi S4 for $45k
but how cool would it be to have a porsche 911 turbo .... would much rather buy this than save every penny I earn, there's always a balance

100k isn't as much as it seems. First world problems, I know, but I'm failing at my goal to save $1000 a month. Married, no kids. $1200 a month mortgage, $250 a month car payment, plus wife's tuition. Once she graduates, I could easily handle a $600 a month car payment and drive a ridiculous car, but I have no desire to do so.

My dad makes that amount and yet my family survives paycheck to paycheck, as they did when he was making substantially less. For the most part, it's not how much you make but how wisely you spend.
Edit - to be fair to him 'tho, they do live in a decent house with some decent materialistic items and he did buy me a car. I had to be fair.
However, my original statement definitely still stands.

It's weird. When I was making 60-70k /yr, I spent money like a drunken sailor, always had awesome cars, and was living basically paycheck to paycheck.
At 150k I am cheap as fuark, and live my life like someone making 50k. I have an OK car (08 BMW 135i) I bought used. Drive a junker in the winter months, live in a very modest condo I paid off 3 years ago, and always look for a bargain on everything. I even get excited about the 30 bucks in gas money I save each week by cycling to work in the summer...lol. I clear about 8800/mth and put away 5k of it towards my retirement savings plan. I want to retire at 50, at least only work part time at that age doing something really fun.
I know a lot of guys like this. Once they start making serious money, they become a lot more modest in their spending habits.

lol @ the tard that only poor ppl try to buy nice cars or however you worded it and that rich ppl dont.
i have plenty of rich friends and all of them have at least 1 exotic. for uber rich ppl that don't, it's just b/c their hobby/taste is in something else. they might spend $200k on some painting...or property tax lol...different strokes for different folks.

yeah..
brb going on 1 week vacation and spending $10k
this car is quite "boy racer" and if you are all fancy and older you'd probably want a used porsche instead.. but hnnnnnnnnnnng:
(and im sure the 22 year old on my uni's campus who drives one, with big black rims, his parents probably rake in $350k)
why the fuk dont you rock an m5? i guess your dinan stage 2 might be similar but there's nothing like an m5... or an AMG c55 or whatever (twin turbo v12). Those AMG's sound SOOOO wickedMisc jawbrah appreciation crew

I make in the 250s (dentist)...I drive a 13 year old Pontiac. I am a car nut too but too many other things are more important to spend money on...I don't feel 'rich'. Sometimes I still feel like I live paycheck to paycheck.
My dad pry makes 500k (anesthesiologist)..my parents live in a 200k house and drive relatively modest cars (Acura TL and Lexus SUV). Looking like you're "ballin outta control" isn't everyone's cup of tea.Last edited by Dec4y; 02-26-2013 at 09:53 PM.

100k a year is all relative to how much you spend. If you have a house, car payment, normal bills, etc its really not THAT much money.
I am comfortable, dont have to worry about bills, able to put money away in savings, have some fun here and there, but I dont live an extravagant life style by any means.-BMBC underground-

Honestly if you really think about it a car is nothing but a piece of metal that gets you from point A to point B.
Yes you can get a 2013 BMW M3 or GTR and pay $100k for it but after about a month or two the novelty will wear off and it will feel like you are driving any other car. Its like a cellphone... when you first get that new cellphone and you play with it for a day or week you realize how much better it is then your old one. However after a month of using it you get used to it so then its nothing special.
If i was making 100k a year id get a 20k reliable as **** honda/toyota maybe buy a 5k-10k project car that i would drive on the weekends but other then that i would much rather spend the money on taking lavish vacations to vegas, hawaii, Japan, South Korea, etc etc. The way i see it when you are 70-80 you are probably going to appreciate the vacation mamories alot more then that one purchase you made which set you back for years.
Lol at driving a 02 Honda Civic while your wife is riding in a bmw z4. I wouldnt be surprised if you made alot more money then her too.
If i am riding in a crappy car my wife better be ****ing riding in a crappy car too.Atlanta Falcons!!!

Dang nice man. I'm going for dental at this time. Do you have any advice for students trying to get into science grad schools like med, dental, pharmacy?
Your 300k only gets spent so fast because your accustomed to spending so much of it because your life is consisting of spending money on unnecessary things.
My dad is 50, graduated in agricultural science in a 12th world country, and just got his MBA like 4 years ago after giving all of his businesses except a laundromat to leases. Sat at home and payed over 2 million of his properties and businesses. I think if you were a bit more strict and careful with 300k you can make it too. My dad gets less than that now, but he used to be averaging 250k+. Our family consists of 5 also, but then again my dad was blessed with a couple offers for his businesses.
Brb sleeps till whenever now
Brb made smart decisions in his investments rather than buying a 50k car and 1.5 mil house.
I'm mirin your size tho, I'm as wide but your thicker and probably taller than I am. Cut a bit and everyone will mire.“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” - Benjamin Franklin
