What's the difference? I've been looking around and i can't find a solid answer. What fundamentally is different between guys like Greg plitt and an ifbb pro? Is is ideal to focus on one? Thanks.

this is the ifbb section bro. there is a fitness competition sub forum for your type of question.
Kai Greene, Phil Heath, Cedric McMillan, Lionel Beyeke, Shawn Rhoden

It's like Arnold competing with 300 pound 5 foot 7 guys, he would never win to the standards to today, so that is what Men's Physique is for, its for muscular god physiques without having to have 35+ inch quads.
The difference between fitness modeling and physique is modeling having very pleasing facial aesthetics, picture friendly low body fat while having an attractive body while men's physique is more body appearance and fitting the criteria for the competition

Size is the main physical difference.
Fitness models also tend to have better abs.
Some of them may have IFBB genetics, but they don't want to pursue things past their point of comfort.
Training tends to be different as well.
It's very difficult to categorize "differences" though, but the main one (mentally) would probably be personal goals.

The fitness look is a lot easier to attain imo. I know a guy who does it, he looks good if you like a big chest, small delts and small glutes and legs. Some would argue he looks better than me because hes lean. If you ask me he just trains a lot, but like a pussy and drinks a lot of protein shakes, not consuming many calories. I may be ignorent of the top fitness athletes but in my experience its the beach body, which anyone can achieve.

Most physique competitors are fitness models, they either came down a notch from bodybuilding or went into their competitions from fitness modeling backgrounds. Everyone has a preference, we get a lot of heat for board shorts, but really we just follow the guidelines of npc/ifbb, I know I can't naturally grow any bigger than 200lbs, which was my heaviest weight, therefore I compete in physique - where being on the juice ain't really going to help you since it's mainly about your overall look & symmetry, so I'm happy hanging in there.
Sincerely,

no, I'm going to be 30 this year, I came up from 145lbs, and I'm happy with my size now, had I started training seriously in my teens I would def attempt bodybuilding. As far as natural federation, whatever research I did NPC seemed like the place to go, I had nobody to ask info or anyone help me, so I picked an NPC show because it had more shows available and it was all over the place and it took off. Prior to my first show I didn't know NPC doesn't test, unless you go out of your way to find a tested NPC competition (which I did, it was a lot smaller and I won overall - NPC Mid-Atlantic Natural Classic, but was happy with it). All in all, I'm very happy with the division and NPC/IFBB, I love the fact that you actually earn your pro card in NPC and have to qualify first VS. more or less buying it (by winning your very first show of like 5 people, lol like WBFF or other small organizations).
Sincerely,

Great response! I'm not as informed about men's physique, but I'm interested to see how it will evolve alongside bodybuilding. I think it's pretty cool that you're essentially a "pioneer" of the new division. Good luck, hopefully you'll compete at the Olympia in the near future.
