Is it too late to start football?

I am in my junior year in high school. I am 6 foot 4. Weight 235 lbs. Endlessly, people tell me how i should be playing football and everyone says it is not too late. I can talk to the coach of my school's team that is not the issue.. I just want to know if it is worth it? I like football as well. I don't just want to do this because everyone tells me too. (I'm sorry if these types of questions are not supposed to be asked.. I'm just getting used to this forum)

I'd say if you really do have a passion to do it, go ahead and do it. Don't do it just because everyone else says.

Go for it! Its not too late, there are D1 players and even NFL players that only played 1-2 years of high school football. Not very many but they exist, Margus Hunt who is about to be drafted out of SMU never played until college. Look him up on youtube, he's an animal!

Say if I do contact the coach this week about my interest in playing for the team and he wants me to play for the team what would happen afterwards? Would I start training intensively until football season comes? I just want to know before hand what i would be getting myself in to

well get off your butt and get to the Coaches office. we already had our first Football meeting and the likelihood of you missing one is good at this point. secondly they have a schedule to stay on you may need to start getting a jump on things. if you don't have anything else going try out Track for a warm up before football. it will get you in shape for the long work outs to come.

Each school football program is going to be different. Most coaches will want players to be working out heavily in the offseason to help put on extra muscle and strength.

It's nothing like too late. There are any number of NFL players who didn't take football seriously until college. Some that didn't even play until then.

If you want to, don't be put off by starting late.

Your coach will have your next steps. Most likely he will want you training ASAP. If your school does spring football practices then he will want you ready to go for those practices. You have a lot to learn as far as technique so try to be like a sponge and absorb as much information as you can.
Enjoy everything though, do it for yourself and no one else!

Jason Pierre Paul didn't play until he was a junior. Antonio Gates didn't play in college. If you're as successful as either one you'll be a bad ass mother ****er and rich as ****. If you're into that sort of thing. And that's just off the top of my head.

And to be honest I don't really get your question. Do you honestly believe you should only play football if your end goal is to star in the NFL? It seems like you either believe that if it's too late to be in the NFL then there's no point or maybe you just don't want to play. Nothing wrong with the latter but what about having fun, making friends, etc. as other reasons to play?
