    First bench press competition

So there's a local bench press competition that I was considering entering. It's about 2 weeks away. I am currently 180lbs (168-180 weight class) and can max at about 275 on a good day. Is that pretty good for my size or do you think I'd get destroyed?

i would say at 180 you should be putting up at least 315 for competition.....but entering isn't going to hurt, have fun

I don't know much about these but just my .02. 275 is really good weight for someone your size considering I can only get 250. But IMO people that do these competitions train specifically for them and with that said, I think they'd move closer to more than 300. I mean, it's not like you would look dumb--it's still big weight. I just don't know if you'd place. Good work though

If you are going raw, I think thats pretty good. In my Power lifting gym this is exactly what we train for. I max 2 weeks ago raw was 300lbs even and 176lbs. I have been working to get there for a while. But I say take a shot cause there are a lot of little tricks and rules that you need to learn in order to do well. But Go for it brah and kick ass.

Wouldn't hurt to try. Might meet people who could help you before your next go at it.

Most cases you will have a weigh in...then a rules meeting...some have equipment checks...if it is a full meet...then the order will go: squat, bench, and then the deadlift.
Most places will have a warm-up room...what you do in between the rounds is up to you...just make sure you get your next attempt turned in and listen for your name to be called out.

i would train with some lighter weight on bench and work on getting alot of reps, and also dumbell press to help stable you.

i weigh 161 and my max is 310

But you can still give it a shot and learn from it and see how you do.
