    Stall Mat Longevity?

THose of you who use the rubber stall mats from Tractor Supply etc for home gym flooring - how do they hold up over the long haul?

I am looking at using them to pad a cement floor under the flat bench I will be using for heavy dumbbell presses, to soften the impact of dropping the dumbbells to the side.

I'm also looking at using them for padding under my trap bar for trap bar deadlifts, and I'd like to know if anyone is using them for the same or similar purpose and how they withstand the constant abuse.

They're made for horses and other livestock to walk on; they'll last forever in a home gym.

They're pretty tough. I've had mine for a few years and use them for trap bar deadlifts among other things. I haven't seen any appreciable wear aside from the shedding of loose rubber particles from the surface that occured during the first few months of use.

Many of my mats are going on 10 years and after I give them a quick wipe with a wet mop you'd be hard pressed to tell they weren't the same age as the 2 I added to my gym a month ago.

    This.

My stall mats are closing in on a decade old and show little to no wear. They aren't in my gym, they are in my barn under the horses.

If you think about it a horse weighs over a thousand pounds and walks on four hooves each only about 4" across. Thats pretty much like a deadlift getting set down every time they take a step, and sometimes they stomp around and scrape at the floor.

Sounds great - based on replies and my readings through searches of older threads, I picked up 6 of the 4'x6' rubber stall mats from Tractor Supply yesterday for $39.99 each, 4 to go under my flat bench for dumbbell presses, and two to go under my trap bar for trap bar deadlifts. They were a pain to load and get into place, but they are awesome once you have them set up!

I have them stacked two high and side by side for the bench area to make a 2" thick, 6'x8' padded area to drop the dumbbells to either side of the bench, and a 2" thick 4'x6' padded area to do trap bar deadlifts.

These stall mats are quite thick, heavy, and tough, and I agree with all who have replied to my original question; they seem like they should hold up to alot of use.

Yeah, they'll last forever with constant home-gym abuse like deadlifts...etc. They're also fun to move around, right? I considered selling off my gym equipment and putting the mats down on one half of the garage...then workouts would be to move them to the other half.

Hahaha, next event at the Arnold Classic, the Stall Mat Drag & Carry medley, how many stacked mats can they drag 50 feet, then roll up & carry & place on a 60" platform? ;-)
