Does soy protein count towards my protein intake?

Since it's not a complete protein, I'm not sure if I should count it like complete protein that will help with muscle synthesis? Then again, if I eat it with another source of protein, is it still incomplete?

Say my goal is 100 grams of protein a day. If I hit 80 grams of protein with animal sources, shakes etc. and 20 grams from soy products, will I have the same results as 100 grams from animal sources?

    Yes.

P.S. Soy protein is a "complete" protein.

Being a complete protein just means that the source contains an optimal proportion of the 9 essential amino acids. All sources of protein will be metabolized as such in the body, therefore they definitely count towards your protein intake.

    Not exactly.

A "complete" protein contains an adequate proportion of all nine of the essential amino acids, not necessarily an "optimal" ratio.

Well, the two words have very similar meanings in this context.

Not at all, as, for example, folks might want to consume a protein that is higher in leucine to "optimize" MPS.

I know I'm a n00b and not a lot credibility here. But is it me or people here tends to over-think nutrition in some case ? A gram of protein is a gram of protein, it could come from fruit, meat, soy or whatever ...

People micromanaging and vigorously mental masturbating over things that make 1% difference in the grand scheme of things? Get out of here!

Not exactly, as lots of folks go on highly restrictive diets where they're, for example, vegans and then it becomes very important to combine protein sources properly.

There's even a woman that posts of this forum that claims to eat only fruit, mostly bananas. 30 a day, in fact. Can you imagine the health risks of such a diet?

30 bananas ?? I really love banana but too much will become a bit boring in the end.

You're right for vegan and protein, but for someone who eats a regular diet with a variety of foods from different sources, veggies, fruits, dairy, meats and nuts, I think that a gram of protein is a gram of protein. This is how I see it and apply it in my day to day macro calculations.
