Says its a waste of time and I should stick to the stair master or a treadmill. Is this true and if so why? It helped me lose a lot of weight when I was heavier. Now that I'm closer to my goal weight are these other machines better for cutting that last bit of weight?

They all burn calories. The intensity dictates how many calories you burn. Stick to the one that you hate the least. I personally don't do much cardio but if I do I'll walk on the treadmill. Never really cared for the stair master and elliptical just feels weird to me. It's just a preference in my opinion.

lets hope her nutritional knowledge is better than her physiology.
as mentioned it makes no difference."Though the concept is not scientifically validated in detail (it should be considered as a hypothesis rather than a scientific theory), it is useful from a practical standpoint. When training athletes, it is impossible to wait until scientific research provides all of the necessary knowledge." Vladmir M. Zatsiorsky, Ph.D.
