Does this sound about right? Maintenance calories

I just calculated my maintenance calories using the Katch-McArdle formula and I came up with a BMR of 1,761 calories and multiplied that by 1.7 for a T.E.E. (total energy expenditure or maintenance calories) to get a maintenance level of 2,994 calories per day. I know I have to experiment to find out if this is correct but I was wondering if you could tell me if this sounds about right. I am 5'-7.5" 23 years old, 171 lbs and 17% bodyfat. LBM = 142lb or 64.4kg. I lift weights about 5-6 days a week. Thanks

That definitely sounds like it could be correct Are you planning on bulking or cutting? Glad to see someone actually using the formula!

1.7 is a VERY high activity level. Are you sure you are active enough to justify that?

As you said, you'll have to experiment to find out. Track your weight gain/loss depending on whether you are bulking or cutting.

No I don't know that for sure, I might end up reducing it. Like you said I will have to track it to know for sure. I'm planning on cutting

Okay so thanks for letting me know, maybe I should multiply by 1.5 instead of 1.7? That would put me at 2,642 calories daily.

Seems on the high side, unless you're very active. I can hit 3000 in the summer with a lot of biking, doing renos, camping, etc, but it's a stretch. In the winter tied to a desk with lifting plus a little run now and again, it's hard to hit 2400.
