It occurred to me just now while listening to Cream's 'White Room' that there is no classic rock thread in the nmisc, which imo is not on considering there is a death metal thread (no hate).

I've never understood why people classify Megadeth and Metallica as rock. I think they are heavy metal bands. They do some rockish stuff, but not enough to classify them as rock bands, especially their older music, which is thrashy and speedy.
Also, I thought Death Magnetic was awesome. Nothing ****gy about that album.“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

entered thread, immediately hoping to post blue oyster cult but perp has beaten me. but perp man that aint one of their 'less popular' by any means.
lol get fcked saying megadeth and metalica are 'rock'. just because new music has pushed what is considered 'heavy' into new boundaries doesn't mean all of a sudden the guys who made thrash what it is is no longer considered it. they are thrash metal.
blue oyster cult are the defining classic rock band. their riffs and solo's were far ahead of their time
here is some of their best -

I have to post this song because it gives me a mental boner. Some of the most epic soloing ever:
Also, can't forget the best Styx song ever:
I think it's a lot less popular in comparison to some of their other songs like Don't Fear the Reaper, Burning For You, Astronomy, Godzilla, Black Blade, E.T.I., etc. I've heard Cities on Flame once on Ozzy's Boneyard and I don't think I've ever seen it on anyone's top 10 B.O.C. list.“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

This thread is relevant to my interests. Could talk classic rock for days on end.
Some of my favorite bands that don't get nearly the love they should in the states (because we suck at music here):
Maiden fans will recognize this one as it's what they play right before they jump on stage - a huge influence on Steve Harris. No UFO = No Maiden most likely:
One of my favorite bands ever is Thin Lizzy. So underrated they had it all. Phil Lynott is arguably the greatest song writer of the genre and they invented (well arguably Wishbone Ash did too) the twin guitar harmonies attack. So underrated:
Shout out to The Who who I saw a few weeks back and blew me away. They still got it:
Doug Aldridge is such a sicko on the guitar. Love Whitesnake and love Deep Purple more. So much talent in those two bands.
Death Magnetic is a top 5 album of the last 20 years IMO - great top to bottom. My favorite from the album:
Everyone has different definitions of what classifies rock or metal or hard rock or prog rock etc. IMO metal bands are a sub genre of hard rock which is a sub genre of rock n roll. I consider metal bands to be rock bands. But again just depends how you define things.
Rust in Peace one of my favorite metal albums ever. So heavy.
Ratt n Roll! Love me some 80s hair bands. Tesla takes the title as best late 80s rock band IMO
Love Ratt tho
Great song but here's a better Dancing in the moonlight

Loved the new Van Halen!
I got so lucky at their concert this year. Got there like an hour early and my seat was literally the highest row up. So I'm just hanging out waiting for the show and a lady who worked there tapped me on the shoulder and said "do you want to move up closer to the stage?". Obv I said yeah. "She goes okay here is a new ticket trade me yours for it.". I ask what's up and she says "The band gets a certain number of tickets for family/friends and when they aren't used they don't want open seats up front."
So BOOM I'm 4th row!
Pics:
Some other shows I saw this year (was a great year for concerts):
UFO (3x):
The Scorpions:
Maiden:
Alice Cooper:
Tesla:
Probably only a third of the shows all I have pictures of for now.
