Do the pro's REALLY use pre-workouts
I understand they endorse them but do you think they use them on a regular basis? I always imagined that their high intake of food and maybe some coffee was an adequate energy source for them.

Its a good question, Can not see why they would not if they do not have to pay for them. The thing is even if they did not use them they could not say that they did not or they would loose their contracts. This question would need to be answered by an ex pro who is no longer on a contact or marketing their own supps.

I also think, over the years they've become mentally conditioned and focused on the task at hand. You take a look at any random lifter, like myself, and yeh most us use pre-workouts. And that's because it's not a job, there isn't a title at the end of the line, perhaps even less drive. Yet for a pro, and the fact it's essentially their job/career, it's just a regular day at the office.. just my thoughts..

Wolf said in this months mdmagazine that he doesn't always use them, that his not a big fan and that he only uses them when his prepping for a contest! I guess like OP said their diet is enough for the energy needs

I'll echo slim and say some do, some might not. It's all about personal preference and i'm sure the majority of pros will use them if they feel like using them! I mean why wouldn't they?

I think pros need an energy boost before a workout just like anyone, whether thats a cup of coffee or a pre workout. Id say at least some do.

You can see Zack Khan use them in some of his video blogs. But in general id say yes they do.

yeah but im going to say i bet it aint the ones you are thinking of. Never understood the need for stimulant pre workouts if you have a decent diet waste of £££ IMO.

Even before pre-workout formulas became popular a lot of pros would use ephedra (legal then) or stronger stimulants (some never legal) to amp them up.

Maybe some times, but Pre workouts often contains a lot of caffeine and other stimulators that stresses your body, and it realses cortisone and thats on of the most catabolic hormones in the body.
it might also have some negative effect on the sleep and water balance in your body, so my guess would be they only use it when they rely need it

Pre Contest
I heard Kai Greene uses a pretty good pre-workout, it's called the mind.

This, I started taking Ultimate Orange back in 1994. It was the best thing ever. I only used it up until it was pulled from the market which I think was around 2001 ish. I recall still being able to find it back then. But I knew it was getting pulled. It went away for about 2 years and then came back with a new formula. But it wasn't even close to the same anymore
Many times in Pro's lifting videos. You can see them drinking colored drinks in gallon sized water jugs.

When I went to Japan twice in the early 90's. You would see this stuff all over around town. It would be in tall glass jars filled with liquid. I never used it as I had no clue at the time of all it's affects. Plus you just never knew what would pop bad on a piss test in the Marines. So I never took chances. But yeah, everywhere I saw this stuff. They also had advertising pictures of Arnold there as well.

What a pro takes in videos designed at least partially as marketing is not indicative of what they actually do. I'm sure some use them, but why does it matter? It's just heaps of stimulants and usually underdosed or ineffective other supplements. If you need a pick me up, then I never understood why one didn't just chug a cup of coffee and save $1.50 a workout.
Work harder, smarter, and longer - overtraining is simply a state of mind.
