Looking at calories as weekly - still works right?

Pretty basic question. Instead of saying that I am going to eat X number of calories per day, does it work just as well to say X number of calories per week?

1-2 days on the weekend are shot for me, since I like to go out drinking with friends (sometimes this involves eating extra too). Is it alright to compensate for this by having fewer calories on the other 5-6 days?

For example, if my goal calories are 2200 per day (15,400 per week). Will:

Eating 1800 calories five days a week and 3200 calories two days a week, have the same/similar results as eating 2200 calories seven days a week?

I suppose the one argument could be that I'm eating less calories on lifting days, so that could affect my workouts.

I'll also step in and confirm with you that it works.

Ate 4400 calories (thanks for all the darned alcohol since it's my bday), which is 1300 over my count, so I ate a bit less today.

However I do suggest to try not to exceed your maintenance calories on the weekend. This will minimize damage and it is still possible to lose 1-2 lbs a week.

Just know the more you eat on the weekend the more it will slow your progress. But slower progress is better than no progress.

Haha. You'll be able to do it.

If anything, eat your minimum of protein and fat before drinking, and fill your remaining calories with booze. Of course this isn't the best way to do it, but it's better than going over your caloric daily goal.

This is what I usually do. I don't really have "cheat" days per say with food. I just plan it all for booze and sometimes late night food, the latter of which is often very important I skip since it's so easy to go overboard, especially living in NYC. None tonight for me though - everyone out of town for holiday weekend

If you are a big weekend eater just eat less calories M-Th and save those calories for Friday and Saturday. Just weigh yourself every Friday morning to eliminate as much water weight fluctuations as possible.

There's a little about it in that thread. It's nothing earth shattering, and when I tell people around my town what I did to lose it they are usually disappointed that I don't have some magic trick. It was just calorie counting, will power, and patience.
