I literally can see the one by CSUSM from my apartment.
The air quality was so bad earlier, seems to have gotten better (for now) still not near contained though.

22 homes destroyed in Carlsbad, 7 active blazes all 40% contained or better. The Cal State San Marcos blaze is threatening the school, hope they get it under control...

LOTS of schools closed today.

I actually live in San Diego, in a town called Olivenhain which is between rancho sante fe and encinitas and I will say the past couple of days have been so hectic.
Waking up wednesday and walking outside to the sun blocked by smoke and an eerie orangish reddish light rays all around and in doing a full 360 spin i could count 3 separate fires that were within eye view.

I drove about 5 min to get to where the carlsbad fire was and took some video (not that long because it was a snapchat to a friend from college who wanted to know how things were.) as well as helped a woman load some things into her car as the fire was just behind houses.

If you guys want that i can show you some of that video

Everythings pretty calmed down now but still pretty surreal.

In a way we were lucky because most of our irreplaceable stuff such as pictures, yearbooks, etc. were still at the house we were moving out of.

Looks like local news has moved on from the fire story since the wildfires affecting homes and structures are mostly contained. It's getting cooler and the wind has gotten back to normal so chance for flare ups seems minimal.

Interesting stats about common causes for wildfires in SD County:

"A more common culprit: outdoor equipment, from power saws to lawnmowers. Power tools accounted for more than 20 percent of fires in San Diego County between 2000 and 2010. That was followed by fires caused by campfires (nearly 10 percent), arson (roughly 5 percent), trash burning (around 4 percent), vehicles doing things like sending out sparks or igniting vegetation with overheated tailpipes, downed or malfunctioning power lines, kids playing with fire, and cigarettes."

what's your budget? could check out mission valley (kinda boring though), mission beach, ocean beach, pacific beach.
