    Squatting below parallel pain

I recently learned I wasn't squatting low enough so I tried to squat lower but it hurts. I had a lateral meniscus tear but I got surgery for it 3 months ago around October 10th. I don't know why I still have pain. My knee is still swollen so could that be a cause? I met the doctor last week but I feel like an idiot if i came again plus its expensive making an appointment.

If you haven't followed a physiotherapist rehab program, I really would not recommend you to do any exercises at all. You see athletes injuring their Menisci and coming back after 6 weeks but they were under supervision and pushed beyond their limits in order to rehab as fast as possible with professional physiotherapists.

Let your knee fully heal and even if it takes more time, let it be. Right now, focus on your upper body and please protect that knee as you will need your knees for another half of century at the least.

If your knee is still swollen, it is a case of either inflammation due to the injury or a sign of post-surgery inflammation.

I take large amounts of voltaren for reducing inflammation.

Unless you are extremely confident that your knee has healed do not push your knee. Do not train and take pain killers unless you are supervised by professionals.

My doctor says its okay to workout and exercise but take it easy with squats and lunges. But I'm trying to play football..... okay I'll take it easy for one month. Also isn't voltaren for osteoarthritis instead of torn but surgery-ed meniscus or scarred meniscus?

No idea what it's used for, normally. It just reduces inflammation. One of our coaches just gives it to his lifters if they're having knee pain, and he popped it like candy when he was training for the olympics last year.

Can I just stroll into my giant pharmacy or wal greens or do I need some type of prescription?

Not really sure in the USA. I don't think you need a proscription though..

    Hey There,

Have you tried icing, compression and elevation? Ice will decrease the amount of local edema or swelling which does impede the recovery process. Compression will allow for coagulation and emmigration of leukocytes and other ****ocytic cells to help clear out debris and others exudates to push on to the fibroplasia or scar formation phase.

Anti inflammatories do help but nothing will really accelerate the healing process. All you can do is be mindful of lower body exercises that could potentially retard the healing process.

hope this helps. any questions feel free to ask.

I've had knee injuries a few times. I dropped my bike coming out of the hotel a few times and ended up hitting my knee. Also the cold air running over my knees when I rode my Honda in the cold weather caused problems. And, when I moved here two years ago, the steps were so steep, and I must have climbed them well over 30 times, my knees once again got flipped up. It took a few months until they were back to normal. I really babied them. I was careful not to put too much stress on them, and eventually they healed. Also, I fell on the ice once, and hit my left knee. It swelled up really nice like. The hospital took an X-Ray, and the Doc told me I had liquid on my knee. That took a couple of months to heal. But the bottom line is/was Take It Easy!
