if jordan played today he wouldnt be the worst player in the league. That fact in itself says that he isnt 'old'. i dont think of him as old. i think of him as ideal for his age. hes still a damn good athlete. he could have played a few more years on the wizards if he wanted, but he chose to go out before he became an average player.

Cliff notes if you're too lazy:

-zone defense/team defense of today>>>>>hand checking or hard hits (I even provided an article and quotes by Jordan)
-average ppg for teams in the 80's and 90's was much higher (teams today resorting to jumpshooting is indicative of the effectiveness of zone defense; if the paint was so tough to attack back then, then why the phuck weren't there more jumpshooting?)
-you could only double team in the past if the opposing player had the ball, today zone defenses allows easier double teaming, traps, etc...

him all of sudden sharing his old age bitterness is not something I would have expected from him. It's certainly not alpha.

It's his birthday this weekend. ESPN is making a big thing over it, which is why these questions were posed to him. He didn't put out a newspaper ad or call a press conference to voice his opinion. An ESPN writer hung out with him and asked him questions. He simply answered them.

These off the top of my head were players frm the jordan era. Young brahs? Do you guys really think the new n.b.a stars could compete with that? Thats a lot of star power. Speaking frm actually growing up in the era, I miss the competitive nature that doesn't exihist anymore. Nowadays, guys dnt seem to try until the playoffs.

    I get that.

but do you not agree with the bolded? do you think all of these little cheap shots the GOAT has been taking at LJ coincidentally happens to be during one of the most impressive stretches ever? I would find it hard to believe that anybody truly thinks MJ is doing all this without the slightest perception of threat sensed.

Defensively he's the best PG to EVER play the game (held michael jordan down pretty well in MJ's PRIME).... and he is still 8th all time in assists

Name me 5 better you'd take on your team

brb D-Wade is a top 20 player all time and pretty much broke his back 5 times per game driving to the rim and being knocked on his ass after half of his layups/ dunks in his first 8+ seasons and is still averaging 21 PPG after surgery this off season, but no, he couldn't handle being roughed up in that era.....even though he's bigger and stronger than Jordan

inb4 Wade is a whiner.....go watch some Bulls games and keep an eye on Jordan and his constant whining to the refs

They are competing for shoe sales. Any time Bron accomplishes greatness, he sells more shoes. Any time MJ makes a move publicly, his development line starts to mass produce and his shoes get sold like hot cakes.

Maybe we should get some of this mindset in Lebron. Maybe then he could become close to the goat.

Obviously he is trying to overrate his era because it makes him look better. There are plenty of guys in today's NBA that would be just as good (if not better) in the 80s and 90s. Zone defense is a tougher defensive rule than handchecking. Handchecking doesn't really affect good players as much as it affects the one's who can't create on their own. Hell, even in today's NBA you will find plenty of instances of handchecking going on that isn't being called just because it doesn't give the defensive player that much of an advantage and if it were called it would ruin the flow of the game.

Is he trying to say that CP3, Durant, Melo, Kevin Garnett, etc... wouldn't be superstars in his era?

The "bad boys" era Pistons would have eaten him alive.

Also, a 50 year old Jordan beat Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in a game of one on one last week:

In 2012, the team with the most points (OKC) averaged 106.2 ppg with only 10 teams averaging 100+ ppg. If defense was so "tough" why the phuck did so many teams average 100+ pts? Zone defense of today>>>>> hand checking.

Here is a 2001 article about the NBA's transition to zone defense

    http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/200...clock-shooters

"Zones neutralize great athletic ability," said Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich, who has experience against zones, having coached the U.S. Olympic team in Sydney. "I don't think it would be good for the league as far as entertainment. People want to see the guys who can soar to the basket."

"I think it eliminates your marquee players," Jordan said last week. "You lose some of the excitement of the game. I think the drastic measures that are being taken come from the lack of maturity of the players coming out early. I don't think we need to make a knee-jerk reaction to the situation so quickly. I hope it doesn't pass."

"Will that entice Shaq to retire early?" Kidd asked of the proposed move to zones. "Why would he want to play if three guys can surround him? It won't be any fun for him."

I think players like Durant, Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Rose, Pierce, etc... would have done extremely well in the past. /rant over
jordan's era had much better big men tho. think about it, whos the best centre in the nba right now?

Jordan seems bitter that he can't play anymore so he puts down every good player of this era.

The league was WORSE by a large margin back then. Lol @ all these 22 and 23 year olds talking about "you didn't watch", oh and you know better? The age argument is so pathetic. As if footage of the entire era doesn't exist?

You think Wade is not a flopper/whiner and that Jordan is a bigger whiner? Srsly? Also, the superstars didn't get nearly as many calls back then as they do now.
Your right about Wade. BUT Jordan got every call brah. Im old enought to say i got to see him play live 3 different times. MJ had the ref/league in his pocket.
