I think it's ridiculous. I'm not a big wrestling fan but given wrestling was part of the ancient olympics, it's a mistake.
I've no problem with equestrian sports, badminton or race walking being olympic sports but eh...synchro swimming, no. They should stick raw powerlifting in there for that matter.

Streamlining the olympics is a stupid idea. seems like they are just getting rid of any of the less popular sports that are actually sports but keeping the super phaggy **** that still isnt popular. I honestly didnt even know that walking was a sport in the olympics. That's completely retarded. atleast they are adding Rugby to the 2016 games though.
So many stupid sports they could get rid of and they choose wrestling? retarded. I realize it's a business but come on. The olympics will lose its credibility with them getting rid of classic international sports.

It is surreal and really doesn't make any sense. I honestly feel like the IOC is playing a practical joke.
The Olympic games were a war simulation, a competition in disciplines used in war. Running, spear throwing, stone hurling, wrestling... and now we will no longer have wrestling, but we will have badminton instead. Lol. These games were becoming a joke with the inclusion of more and more silly sports and now they are taking the jokification to the next level by removing the original olympic sports.
Its a shame that they will sell their souls for a few more viewers and give up on their heritage which includes wrestling.

Yeah, I'm sorry but I'm going to disagree here....at the very least there are other sports in the Olympics more deserving to be dropped than swimming. Crap, synchronized swimming for crying out loud? Who the heck watches that?

Haha, all kinds of swimming and Tae Kwon Do too! Put me in charge, we can get the Olympics done in a weekend!
All of a sudden, it seems like everyone across all social mediums has become a huge fan of wrestling. It's almost like if they would have watched it in the Olympics, it may have not gotten cut. But they only wanna save it now because that is what is cool and will bring the likes.

I think people realize what a stupid decision it is and that Wrestling is part of the heritage of the Games.
My opinion.

now if we could just get Lay-N-Pray removed from MMA
I find it funny that people are even mentioning lay and pray and freestyle wrestling in the same thread. Freestyle is constant movement working for a takedown followed by constant movement in an attempt to score on the ground. If you don't move, you are stood up within 10 seconds, none of this "he's in half guard" sh*t. Lay and pray is a strategy adapted to mma by successful wrestlers, there is no riding time and no lay and pray in freestyle wrestling.

Uh, no. Olympics were founded as a test of human limits. Swimming tests that. Wrestling tests that. Running tests that. Et cetera. Ping-pong, wake boarding, dressage, et cetera do not test that. It's a stupid move by the IOC. But then again, that's what they are known for - corruption and stupid decisions.
100% Raw / Natural
July 2009 - 273 pounds - PL Total: 540
July 2010 - 255 pounds - PL Total: 775

They removed Wrestling but they keep walking in the Olympics? yes they have a sport called Racewalking.
"one of the more grueling events on the olympic calender" lol!!
the olympics are supposed to be a display of athletic talent. fuking golf and walking are the opposite of that. is world of warcraft going to be the next "grueling event" at the olympics? what about professional sitting or maybe even eating?
wrestling was the most physically demanding sport in the olympics. wtf

I was with you till ping-pong, have some respect.
But seriously, Tae Kwon Do is an embarrassment, it needs to go.
It's definitely bull**** and a cruel joke by the IOC.
That being said, MMA probably stands to gain--at least in the shorter term--from the IOC's mistake.
But only for the shorter term. Once wrestling is out of the olympics, there will be lees kids learning to wrestle at a young age which means less talented wrestlers joining mma at a later age. There may be a large influx of wrestlers for the next <10 years, then far less.
