Being a Catholic, I think this a good idea. The man is tired, and probably in not good health. Unlike the Pope's before him, they died while doing the work of our Lord. Having said that, I think some of the former Pope's may have not made some of the wisest decisions when they may have been in not in the best of their phyisical, mental emotional state. God forgive me if I am wrong.

This sort of thing hasn't been done in some 700 years. Took everyone by surprise, to be sure. I can certainly understand the gentleman's concerns. I would tend to think that in such a position, one would want to be 'on their toes' and up to a challenge...physically and mentally.

Last Pope to step down was in 1415, I think.
The current Pope and his council have taken a beating over the last few years due to the money and sex scandals of the Church. I'm sure it's weighed on his mind. As for his successor? They'll more than likely choose a European.
The only Pope I ever liked was Pope John the XXIII. Those chosen before and since never made much of an impression on me at all."Don't call me Miss Kitty. Just...don't."--Catnip. Check out the Catnip Trilogy on Amazon.com

Being Pope is a super tough job. Some years back some one called Rush Limbaugh saying the Catholic Church needed to change, come in the present year etc. Rush, a non Catholic, responded conservatively saying that 2000 years ago the church was set up with sets of rules, the 10 Commandments, and other righteous rules and said members must obey these rules. Rush said if the caller wanted to be Catholic, you know the rules or you do not get to be Catholic, either 2000 years ago or today.
Being the Pope of one billion Catholics has got be every bit as difficult at being president of the US. Note the Pictures of when they take office, and a few years later.Do what's right.

Pope Snowball is available. The South Park Easter Special episode had me rolling in tears from laughing so hard.

I'm not catholic but I believe that the pope can be any non married catholic man. It's just become the norm that they are picked from among the cardinals. So if you are an unmarried catholic popegregorius, then you can be pope. And yes they are putting odds on who will be next. I heard the Canadian candidate is a front runner with 5 to 2 odds.

Having an ex-Pope around will be interesting.
I'm shocked that crupiea isn't already here!
I believe that is correct. They can elect pretty much any qualified man they want. They don't even have to vote - the new pope can be chosen by acclamation: if the Spirit moves them to suddenly proclaim "Gregorius", then it's done.Peace: Lift Long and Prosper!
