Just want to get a feel of how most people on this forum track their total macro nutrient and calorie intake. I've always wondered how other people manage their macro's since I've started tracking mine about a year ago and basically my entire family thinks I'm nuts for doing so.
I kind of devised a 1-10 scale, and am just wondering to what extreme do most of you track your intake to...
10 - I weigh/measure everything I eat and lick the plate clean. I will not eat something unless I know the exact measurement and macros. The myfitness pal app is a Godsend to me.
9 - I weigh/measure mostly everything, except individual portion pre packaged foods or drinks that have the exact amount listed.
8 - I weigh/measure a lot of what I eat, but about 10% or so of the meals I just go by the nutritional information that is available, and will guesstimate the portion size
7 - I weigh/measure a good amount, but 10-25% of the meals have the portion size and macros guesstimated. Even if the nutritional info is not available for a particular item, I guess the best I can.
6- I weigh/measure roughly 50-75% of what I eat, the other meals are guesstimated to meet my particular macro needs as closely as possible.
5- I weigh/measure about half (or less) of what I eat, the other meals are guesstimated to a degree, but I don't care if I go a bit over/under my macro's
4- I weigh/measure only the very calorie dense things like nuts/butter/oil/ect. and just try to practice portion control for the rest of the food I eat to hit my macros
3 - I don't weigh/measure anything, I simple go by satiety and portion control to guesstimate where my macro's are and try to get enough of each macronutrient
2 - I don't weigh/measure anything, I don't care what my macro's are or if I am deficient in any one of them. I just eat whatever and however much I feel like.
1 - What are macros?
I would put myself at a 7, how about you?

Probably a 5-6 during a bulk and a 7-8 for a cut.

My diet doesn't have huge variances, so I have a good idea of what I'm taking in so no longer need to weigh/record everything (which I used to). I think there's a definite benefit to recording everything you eat for a while (months), just so you have a better idea of the nutrients and total calories of various foods. Later on, you'll have the freedom of going from memory and making better estimates for foods other people prepare (family, restaurants, etc).
So I picked 5, but found the options limiting. I'll be more anal when I cut...

'Bout an 8, just become habit to weigh and measure pretty much everything, doesn't take long anyway.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
1/13/16: Massive hernia.
5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

8 or 9. Mainly weigh or measure meat and calorie dense dry foods e.g nuts, rice, pasta, cereal, potatoes. Most other stuff like sauces or anthing out of a wrapper I use myfitnesspal, and fruit and veg just a good guestimate on size/weight using myfitnesspal macros.
I seriously hope no one weighs their egg whites!

Seeing as I develop a diet tracking app its part of testing for me to use it so I track my macros every day.

5, except after 18 years of cooking, I can eyeball near exact amounts.

I had great, consistent results on a cut when I did 10. I even refused to eat at a restaurant that didn't have a nutrient info on their stuff. Yes, I was pretty asburgers about it and I won't ever be like that again as I wasn't enjoying food (like you're supposed to do sometimes) so much as thinking of it as some intangible number that none of my friends could understand. I can still get great results being 7-9 and I probably float between the 3. My work schedule is alternating and I tend to be more strict on work days.

7, not much effort needed to do that and nutritional labels aren't widespread in my country. I've been doing it for a year, so I have a good idea of macros of certain foods already. And the labels/calorie counts aren't that accurate anyway, so it's not a big deal.
Always learning.
