Start exercising, Stop muscle training = loose skin???

    Hey everyone,

Once you begin exercising and gain solid mass muscle but completely stop training. Will that gained muscle turn into loose skin and get worse as you are get older? Just heard from a friend.... Friend keeps saying all your gains will turn into loose skin when your older. For example if you gain a big solid chest, your going to have far more loose skin then someone who had an average body. Thoughts please???

    Many thanks

If you stop using your muscles, they will eventually lose size. If you end up being skinny afterwards, then it's quite possible that you will have a bunch of loose skin left over. Here's a neat solution: keep on lifting. If you enjoy lifting enough to get big in the first place, then you'll probably enjoy it enough to do it longterm, in which case this shouldn't be a big issue.

depends on the how big you get and how quick you downsize. IT is the exact same as losing fat, if you do it too quick you will have left over skin.

On the plus size, most people do not get "big" enough naturally for that to be a real concern.

Age and personal factors also play a role in skin elasticity.

There are healthy rates at which your body can adapt to muscle gain and fat loss. It's not by any means easy to gain considerable muscle mass, but you can get lost in the motion of things. Think of it like overdrive. You'll have a lot of overdrive when you start any new kind of exercise, and using it persistently will supply a lot of short-cuts for adaptation. It's not necessarily healthy to keep yourself in overdrive by any means, and your adaptations to it can create a sling-shot effect.

Yo-Yo dieting is probably the most common thing you'll hear in regards to this sentiment. It has more to do with nutrition without consideration to fitness, but the concept has its grounds in fitness as well.
