An actual use for wrist weights?

I bought a pair of 1.25lb plates back in November, and they're fabulous. However, I think I may need even lighter ones for things like OHP and bench, where even an extra 2.5lbs can be too much if I try to increase every workout.

I was looking into the standard set of microplates (two - ¼, ½, ¾, and 1 lb. plates in each set), however they're quite expensive for what you get...upward of $50 with shipping.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has tried using something like wrist weights instead? I was thinking something like these:

    http://www.amazon.com/All-Pro-Adjust...rds=adjustable

The weights are super adjustable, and I can just add them to the end of the bar (not to my arms). They may not be as professional looking, but I figure they can do the job, and that's what counts, especially being less than half the price of the plate set.

    Thoughts?

Seems like a hassle, I'd want to go with something more solid and metal. Try going to Home Depot and look for some heavy duty washers or metal rings (anything with a hole in it really), doesn't have to be a big enough hole to fit on the bar, if you're talking 1/4 to 1lb you can easily put a zip tie through your hardware piece and attach it to an existing oly plate or even the bar itself. It's generally pretty cheap to buy some hardware like that, just weigh the pieces of a food scale, and then you know 2 washers = 1/4lb or whatever it turns out to be. Could prob get enough metal pieces for under $5 and then keep a tub of zip ties around, also cheap.

Here is what I did. I have exactly those you listed but the ankle ones instead of wrist ones .Buy a pair of 10 lb adjustable ankle weights . They have metal bars each weighing 1lb that you can remove to customize. I use these add 1lb increments as needed and they can be strapped to the bar or end by the plates or wrist .

I know it's less than ideal. I'd love to make my own, but I'm at college, don't have a car, and the nearest home deopt is 10 miles away. I think it would be more trouble and money to do it that way, unfortunately, otherwise I'd be down with it. Thanks for the idea, though.
