If find the Pin/Pipe alright but quick spotters make the rack so much more usable. Things like shrugs, rack pulls, etc., can be done easier and without destroying the bar. Plus, yes, pine/pipe is a little tedious....especially if you're working out with a partner or sharing the rack.

Yeah, I work out with my wife and she really hates the pin/pipe thing. I actually wrapped the pipes with round rubber/foam insulation that I had leftover from insulating my pipes at home. I then put some gorilla tape (serious duck tape) on top on the rubber to make it durable. Now it won't mess up my bar knurling, though it has a slight ghetto feel to it. It's a temporary solution til I get some strap safeties or til Rogue makes those nice flip down ones for the R3.

Nice. My old body solid bench has 1 inch safeties and i bought a pool noodle and cut the middle and i just slide it on and off to protect the knurl.
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website regulary to educate themselves for FREE

This solution will also soften the impact from dropping the bar and may save your bar from bending. You will, of course, have to take the compressiblity of the material atop the safety into account when setting the height.
