Good post, don't agree with the whole thing on balancing vertical pulls and horizontal pulls (I firmly believe rows are better for the lats and overall back development) but good solid advice for the intermediate trainee.

Deadlifts are a great dare i say the best exercise there is.Even if you can't go really heavy they are very benifical.

true although i prefer deadlifts to be heavy and around 4-6 reps
Rows to stomach is great for the upper lats IMO and it does use more muscle mass the vertical pulling but anyway as i mentioned everyone's body mechanics are slightly different. thanks for your input.MUST READ about back development : http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=151735043
