I get the old "you don't look a day over 49" at times.

And there are 2 things I like to do with cashiers at stores regarding the age deal and whether or not you look ancient.

Go a liquor store and I obviously never get carded, I will say something to the cashier along the lines of "thanks a lot for ruining my day by not carding me, now I feel as old as I look". Some will laugh and others will actually apologize.

Or go someplace that sells ammo and when they ask to see my ID for proof...yes in Wisconsin they ask for that...I will tell them "thanks for the compliment".

The darker it is, the better I look! I have a former student who is a 5th Grader now. He always comes up in the hall, hugs me, and calls me 'abuelo.' It's ok. Ha! Better to be verticle still, even if a little grey and haggered looking. Most folks are surprised when they hear my age. And yes....they tend to think I am younger. LOL

My kids, 7 YO girl, 10 boy and 16 boy mess with me all the time calling me grandpa. I tell them when you can do most sports better then me, then you can call me grandpa.

Not to rain on anyone's Parade of Delusion, but asking for ID is the oldest trick in the book. Not to flatter the patron, but rather to put a face and first name together. Instead of referring to you as "creepy Daniels and coke dude" or "drunken and billegerent ketel one and tonic lady" we can say "Hi Fred and Sue!"

Hey! I had a woman last week ask me if it was my first year at Uni.

I'd been unpacking my son's shopping in the kitchen of his new on campus flat. She was about 7 paces from me. The lighting was "spot on" perfect for snapping a new AVI shot. She'd brought her nephew in and was hoping to introduce him to his new flatmates. Well!! Well!! Blow me down! He's a first year student too!!!!! i would never of picked him for a Uni student, he looked 9.

I cleared the air and told her "whom" I was and all that. She gasped...I think. I thought she was going to suffer a myocardial infuarktion, understandably she was mortified and began apologizing over and over and OVER! [That's 1 x 3]

She then quickly saved the embarrassing slip with..."WELL that makes it a great compliment to YOU!!" She started to cackle[I observed deep furrows and lost count at the number of laugh lines.] I shuddered somewhat violently[64 and 3 months] Her beady eyes roamed up and down my body ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [ticklish]

She held my left arm which housed an impressively swole bicep with the latest precision-cut tris. My gaze turned to daggers and in my "barely there" pink wife beater top, flared jeans and crappy gym shoes...Heaven help me, I swear - the thought was there only for a brief moment and then - POOF* It was gone.

She shook me awake and told me it was time to take my meds.

Well, you may not look significantly younger than your age but you don't look old at all. Same goes for Lisa and Kimm. Dont know about LBM because her face is always obscured in her photos

My friend's father tried to knock me down a peg when I stopped at their home the night of my 25th birthday by saying "Oh you're turning 25? I would've guessed older" lol. It was because when I first met them, I guess he didn't like the way I smiled at his wife. I always smile and try to be polite when I'm meeting new people, especially my friends' parents. Anyway, he's never liked me since. Good thing my friend has her own place now so I don't have to see them.

The bottom line, for a male at least, the following factors will make you appear younger than most people your age:

In no particular order:
- If you haven't gone bald, or are balding
- If you have kept yourself in good physical shape
- If your hair is not all grey
- If you don't act/ think "old"
- If you don't dress "old"
- If your skin has not wrinkled considerably (some folks are genetically blessed)

Now, a man can go about and try to do/be all these things... at least the ones he has control over, or they can happen naturally, just because that's who he is (not trying to be something you're not). Personally, I never think about how old I am, but I try to maintain my youth because it makes me happier. When my dad was my age, he was an "old man." Everything about him said, "I'm old." The world has changed. When people say things like "40 is the new 30," there is a lot of truth to that. For me, the biggest point is mental. I don't think old. All you haters can hate, but some people are just being themselves and feel/look younger than most people in their age bracket.

A couple of years ago, I stopped at a fast-food place's drive-thru for a quick cup of coffee. I placed my order, noting the price on the sign as $1.00, and drove to the pickup window. The little teen girl working there looked at me, and said, "That'll be 50 cents, please." I protested, stating she was charging me too little, and she replied that she went ahead and gave me the Senior Citizen's Discount.

My wife is still laughing about that.
