Hi I was was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm doing my first completion in the bikini class next month on June 5th and I'm currently on my period meaning that I will also be on my period on the day of the completion with obviously
Isn't great. But since I've got a bit leaner I've noticed how bloated I actually am when I'm
On my period, I feel heavy and bloated even when I've just woke up. So ideally I'd like to be on one of the two weeks in your cycle when you're hormones are just normal which I assume is the weeks when you aren't on your period and aren't ovulating. But basically I can't take the pill to delay my period either as
I'm worried that due to the high levels of hoones in it this will cause me to bloat or hold onto weight (I was
Taking the pill a while back for my acne and I was really struggling to loose any fat at all so I came
Off it) I've finally started to loose weight and I don't want to look
Exactly how I did before due to period bloating.
Does anyone have any ideas or know if it's
Possible to change my cycle or delays period on any other way?
Thanks

I would just skip the sugar pills for that week. I doubt it would make much of a difference in terms of weight gain in that short a period of time. I skip the sugar pills 9-10 months of the year due to endometriosis and I don't think it makes me hold extra weight. ETA: Sorry - I misread and thought you were on the pill.

Try dandelion root it's supposed to help with bloating. I have heard of competitors taking it before competitions. I am not sure how much or when you are supposed to take it so I would research it (I am sure there are articles on here) or maybe someone else may have experience taking it. I would not suggest going on birth control at this point. You have no idea how your body is going to react to it and you are more likely to have breakthrough bleeding when first going on the pill.
Other than that I don't think there's anything else you can do. Maybe eating asparagus would help as well since it's a natural diuretic. There are definitely ways to get around it and I am sure many women have competed on their periods. You'll be fine.Beast in training...

Well, technically it can be done. I have one every three months, because I intentionally skip them. Doctor's orders though, not just me deciding to skip my sugar pills. The pills I got for an every three month period are different than the ones I was using for regular cycles, so I wouldn't recommend skipping the sugar pills on your current prescription unless you talk to your dr/gyno first, as you want to make sure you're not messing with the effectiveness, or your hormones in a negative way. Even with the less frequent periods, there's still milder symptoms that occur around the usual time too, so it may not even solve the whole problem. Just lessen it.

Jumping onto this thread because the topic is super interesting to me... I'm on the pill and I've never double cycled or whatever it's called (skipping the sugar pills/the week off and jumping into the next pack). Theoretically speaking, if I did that one month, but I've already planned out my vacations for the year (because having your period on vacation sucks), how would I get myself back to the schedule that was planned out at the beginning of the year (e.g. I know every day for the year that I'm supposed to start my period on)?

Normally bloating/retaining water from your period is never an issue for women who are competing at the lowest levels of bodyfat and completely depleted. When you're that lean there isn't any bloating. I compete in female bb, never lost my period and I've hit the stage many times during my cycle.
It's a little different with bikini because you're competing at a higher bodyfat so the bloating could happen and it's normal. During your peak week you can slightly cut back on carbs, sodium and use some dandelion root. It's main purpose is to control fluid balance. I prefer using the caps and the dosage is 1 cap/500 mgs daily. If you're using any dairy or drinking any diet soda you can cut it out on Tues-Wed of your peak week. Keep your water intake up through the entire week. Using this protocol will shed any remaining water you're holding onto.Last edited by kimm4; 05-06-2016 at 10:54 AM.

I'm not sure if this is science or broscience but if you go swimming for like an hour or so right at the beginning it might stop it temporarily, I know when I haven't gone swimming in a long time it does that for me. The chlorine might not be compatible with the spray tan though.
