So if your desire is to build arms, search for arm routines (this includes the triceps as well) and go to f'cking work on them, I hope you do know you have to eat as well.
Clive trained only arms for 7 years to get his disproportionate build. Maybe you can get big arms without a big chest and back, but is it worth 7 years??

You g. s kill me. Lol. I was just looking for something to discuss and I got a good laugh. Thanks.

    Sample workout.

    Straight bar crls 115-10,8,9
    Cbl ext 130-5 120-9,8,7
    Prchrs 90-9,8,6
    Bent BB kickbacks 75-13,12,11
Dropsets cable crls and Overhd ext

My meaning when I said focusing. I've done the following split for years.
    Day 1 Chest & triceps
    Day 2. Back & biceps
    Off day
    Day 4. Legs
    Day 5. Calves & delts
    Weekend off
So then "focused" I switched my split up to
    D1 bicep triceps
    D2 legs
    Off day
    D4 chest & back
    D5 calves & delts.

I was just needing a change and hopping to add an inch to my (insert your choice of slang)

Diet is set to be gaining wieght with minimal fat gain. I've gained 20 lbs in 10 months.

Looking back I have gained some strenght but not much size. So I'm not sure if my expectations where to high or my plan is off.

    Just looking for some ideas.

By squats and milk I mean heavy compounds, the foundation of size IMO. I firmly believe that arms for most people are going to be in proportion to chest/back/shoulders.

You built great arms, but your chest and back were also developed, and a guy who has trained consistently for 30 freaking years is not fair to hold up against a newb.

Yes of course I am not using myself, I am saying take two individuals (both nubbees) have one of them do squats and the other do direct bicep work, Standing BB curls, Chin Ups, Seated DB Curls, who do you think is going to have the better arms, the guy doing the squats??

I would not recommend this, but to think you need to do squats to build arms is just dumb.

Of course building overall mass would aid in building your arms (as with every other part of your body) and no one should neglect that.

I trained arms by themselves one day a week on top of 4 days of body split. In my AVI pic, my arms were over 21 inches a few years ago. So I decided to grow my belly 40 lbs to balance out my arms.

Hope to get this weight off. But I am not shaving anymore. Hate that. I was 267 lbs in pic.

@ BH. Man you got major peak. Awesome bro!

I don’t know where you got that from, not 7 years, more like 2 at the most.
We all max out to a certain arm size at a given body weight.
I’m natural and lucky to have 17’s at a comparatively low body weight of 170 pounds, its unlikely I’ve ever get them any bigger now unless I get bigger overall.

This was taken a few years ago when I even had 17’s at 160 pounds.
I have a bit of a chest now!

How did I miss such a good thread?!

I know I am weird, but I am a big believer in heavy compounds for arm growth. My arms get very little in the way of direct work. (this could just be a genetic gift.......wish my damn calves would have gotten the same one though! )

Anyway.....for tris, nothing hammers like close grip BP. Recently I have begun doing reverse grip BP. It is a fun variation which really hits the tris as well.

What can you say about biceps that pullups and chinups will not hammer? Crap, I can straight bar curl all day and not put the same beating I get when weighted pullups.

Anyway...to each their own. Some guys like to do fancy splits with a different bodypart every day. I have always felt it is better to train heavy and compound. Not only do I feel recruitment of the muscles is better, it is also better bang for the buck time wise.

Good luck either way. OP, at your height, 17" arm is nothing to be ashamed of.

Response to training is very genetic. Like you, my tris grow very easily with heavy benching, but I have to make a concerted effort to get my biceps to grow. They have come up since I started to place more focus on them and stopped relying so much on compounds. I think most have their body parts that just seem to grow regardless and some that need some extra attention.

Thanks for the info IDrag. thats the kind of feedback I was looking for. Just some good old "this works for me" is what i was thinking i would get.

don't get me wrong I like to read a weird thread every once and a while but I was starting to wonder if all was lost on this one.

Thanks for the comps on my 17s. I feel good about my arm size, just was tinkering around to see if other tactics would do much for me.

Seems like for me that Triceps might be getting over worked. Real sore on overhead tricep movements for the first hour of the workout, then when everything is good and hot the overhead tricep pain is barable. It feels kind of like tendonitis which is why I'm thinking it just over worked. I've not had much trouble with tendonitis in the past.

one reason for the focus on arms is I have stalled out on bench at the same wieght everytime over the last few years. Bench is not a strong suit for me I get to 7 or 8 reps with 225 and can't seem to get past it. I'm not looking to be a powerlifter but it seems guys my simular size can do a good bit more than me.

I have no problem with calves I don't have to train them at all and they seem big enough to get an occational "I wish my calves would grow like that" so if your willing I will trade you some calf for arm straight accross.

Thanks for the imput. One thing that started my arm focus was a friend of mine boast about having 22s a while back. I'm sure he was fluffy when that measurment was taken but he had at least 19s if the fluff was removed.

Arm measurements are a fun comparison, but tbh, they don't mean much. At different bodyfat percentages, it is pretty useless to compare them. Plus, BB'ing is about illusions. It doesn't matter if your arms are 16s if they look like 20s. One of the benefits of having smaller joints, it gives the illusion of larger muscles.

Total agree. Just using the tape to measure gains. another buddy says it's not how much you can lift, it is how much you look like you can lift. haha

Tell that to him when he is trapped under the bar

Arm measurements favor the guys with crappy composition. Lots of guys with big "fat-ceps" running around. Now get them down to 10%bf and they would be a little humbled.
