Need some advice - muscle failure

Hey everybody, I'm new to lifting regularly (I have been to gyms on and off but am finally in a situation where I know I can and want to stick with lifting for long term. One major issue I am having is muscle failure during my exercises. When lifting I usually go for a weight that challenges me and brings me close to failure at the end of a set (something I read, not sure if this a guideline or just bs). I usually go with 10 reps for 3 sets. My problem is although I can complete my first set nearing failure my second and third set often never get the complete 10 reps. My muscles simple wont push anymore no matter how hard I try or how focused I am. But whenever I drop down the weight I can usually complete all the reps but I just don't feel like I was challenged enough. I feel like I am the only person in the world with this problem and could really use some advice.

You are not. All it takes is time and experience.
bb.com, a place that turned Deadlift into a forearm isolation exercise

and a place where 99% of 21 year olds have bad back and knees.
