Just make sure to follow up with your doctor and get regular blood tests and iron level checks. My wife had bariatric surgery in 1999 and she is getting most of it reversed this March. She almost died during Christmas because the surgery became so effective over the years her body stopped absorbing nutrients all together. She was aborbing about 100 calories per 1000 she was taking in plus her body stopped processing protein all together. There is a test they can do to see how much of your food intake your body is absorbing and eliminating. Insist on getting that at least once a year.

I'm SO sorry to hear that about your wife! I hope she is doing okay. Unfortunately, bariatric surgery isn't the perfect science yet and everyone handles it differently. You are TOTALLY right. I get blood every 6 months especially since I started training really hard... I guess you can say I'm overly cautious but I want to make sure all of my levels are okay and I am functioning well. What surgery did your wifey have?

With her's, they bypassed most of her small bowel. So she could eat whatever she wanted and most would just pass thru her unabsorbed. She couldn't eat large amounts of food but she could eat quite often. Right now she is on a TPN feed bag until surgery. Every night we hook her up to it and it pumps into her for 12 hours. That's the only way she can absorb any nutrients at all.
