Two of my favorite albums/mixtapes but you can't put that along with the other mentions itt
I've seen multiple sources saying that the majority of Illmatic was written in his late teens
Yeah I know he's not on Nas's level, but I love the way he puts his words together

I don't claim to be the biggest hip-hop aficionado around but i've listened to this album a few times (on the recommendation of others) and it never stuck with me.. Sure, the lyrical content was good but it's not an album I would be running home to listen to.. the beats weren't anything special and it just didn't seem catchy to me.
What is it about this album that you guys all love? Is it the lyrical content? I just don't see the appeal
(For reference an album I do love is Biggie's Life after Death album.)
edit: i'm not saying it's BAD, it does **** on 90% of the stuff coming out todayPhil Kessel is the "Chosen One" crew

Not gonna read through 5 pages so it may have already been mentioned but Mob Deep's "The Infamous" has to be one of the greatest albums of all time. EVERY PHUCKING SONG on there was a banger. All true Hip Hop fans would definitely have that included in their Top 5 rap albums.
I'm mad that some of you *******s are even bringing Wayne into this conversation...I like his music but cmon man GTFOH with that chit.

Fuark I missed out on the early 90's hip-hop, but I got into rap and such a few years after The Slim Shady LP came out (My big brother gave it to me and I would lay in bed at night with my cd player listening to it). I think that album and shortly after I got The Marshall Mathers LP. I don't think there are few albums that touch me as much as those, because I've been listening to them since a child. Still listen to "Stan" almost daily.

Eggs plain....
Seriously? It's Dark & Hell Is Hot isn't a top 5 album? That sh** is BEYOND classic. Pure fire. That's some Yellowstone fire right there baby. Come on now....
I disagree. Illmatic is cool, but it's nowhere near those 3. It takes ID&HIH in lyrics, but that's about it.
But Monch and Budden, no way.....they sh** on Nas."ERMUHGAWD Crew"
"ERMUHGAW LOL...."
"Oh you, ERMUHGAWD!"

Let me just say if you are 25 and below you should not be posting these old school albums such as Wu Tang, Eric B and Rakim that just proves to me that you just beleive what you read hear on VH1 and simply agree with the consensus... most albums from tht time do not relate to these times.. for ex im 23 heard paid in full by eric b and rakim when i was 18 and never really stuck to me. I know its a game changing album but im not gonna sit here and say its a classic cause i know nothing of those times and the impact...

Don't project your bullchit onto me just because you can't feel the classics. 36 is still one of the hardest hitting albums and Paid in Full is dope as fuk. (Tho Follow is my fav)
Can I relate to half the 5%, knowledge of self, asiatic black man culty bs as a 21 year old white man? Not so much.. Who cares.
Sorry you feel like a poseur brah but that don't reflect me as a fan of all music of all eras.**Ensiferum and ManOwaR are my test boosters crew**
