Lordlosh, I get that you are very pro Kai and anti Phil, but try to see how you would react if you saw Phil with that type of a gut. Sure it is off season, but Kai is relatively lean here and still has a HUGE gut. I am a BIG Kai fan, but I like to look at this as objectively as I can. It is NOT normal to have that type of gut at the level of body fat he had in his video, nor should that be accepted as normal.

for pro's at that level who have been in it as long as Kai has, yeah that's pretty normal. and this is coming from the guy that always jumps in those threads to defend Philly when people start bagging on him for things like his off-season gut.

I think the offseason diet is more to blame than anything. Lots of food= bloat. Doesn't anyone see this in themselves when they hit a buffet hard? I know I do.

I think the angle it was shot at make it look worse also.
Current 2015 world #2 Phil Heath and 2015 world #1 Dexter Jackson could easily look like this is side on shots and off season. In the 2014 Olympia, world #2 Phil Heath's gut easily looked worse than Kai's off season gut here.TEAM WOLF + TEAM KAI +TEAM CEDRIC + TEAM ROMGLE - TEAM RAMY - TEAM FAIR JUDGING

I dont like Phil for a lot of reason. And im Ramy fan, not Kai. And if i remember correctly i never cry about Phil off-season shows. I care how he looks on stage. And he is 1 of the smallest guy from top 5 and to have a gut, while you are small is narrow, not helping your case, get the point ?
When you carry a lot of mass and you are big, then you would expect someone to appear with gut. Like Ronnie for example. Yet Phil is small and 2014 was pregnant ...
And for this read what NaturalproMJG say.
When im "bulking" i eat really a lot, and when i go arround 120kg. my midsection have distention as well. When i drop to 110-115kg. and lower the carbs, blow the water away, my midsection is perfectly fine.

I get you Lordlosh. I actually am one of the guys who I believe are in the majority which thinks Kai should have won at least 2 of the last 3 Olympias and also not a big fan of Phil at all. But this isn't about comparing Kai with Phil, it is about the fact that Kai is very lean in that video and has a very significant gut. While that might be acceptable, I don't think it has to do with intake of food, but other things obviously, because you never saw bodybuilders look like that before the 90's and definitely not at Kai's body fat in the video.
Its this "get big at all costs" approach which is leading to the ruining of a lot of physiques. I think a Kai with a flat midsection and a little bit less size is WAY more impressive than a slightly larger one with a gut. And I know you will say that it is all about what they bring to the stage, but the fact is ALL the top pros with the exception of Ced maybe have to worry about sucking their gut in even when at competition level body fat...that is not the way bodybuilding should go.

Sorry, didn't ask. was talking about the show (mentioned in this thread), and some art work that was in it (wondering if he drew it).
He ran a seminar in the gym, but I was just sort of listening as I was training. he talked about proper recruitment in the squat, and then showed some felt work. Basically, stuff you can watch on youtube. BUT... it was cool having his voice in the background as I was doing my workout. lolI don't lift weights, I flex under duress.

Agree. I dont like the direction bb going as well. We dont see better bodybuilders, they go to wrong direction and are way worst then the guy from 90 for example.
Today i was watching a Bulgaria amateur physique guy - Slavi Goranchovski and he say IFBB is corrupt and the organizer/chief tell who to win. Not the best win, but the guy they decide to win.
The judges is simply a puppets. And i got to be agree with him.
There is a interview with him, but its on bulgarian.

I find it weird that anyone who eats like a lifter can expect him not to have a gut off season because he is lean. Try to imagine how much food a man with that much muscle has to eat... Even I get a massive gut every time I eat (I eat 2 large meals a day) and the leaner I am, the more pronounced the gut is.
Now, if he steps on stage with that thing, that's a different storytattoos - http://facepolution.deviantart.com/

Difference is that the last time Kai competed without a gut was 2012. Phil on the other hand has only really had distention at the 2014 Olympia prejudging.
Like others are saying, I think it's fine in the offseason because of how much food these guys need...but come contest time, it should be under control. I hope Kai can bring his midsection in tight again, but we really haven't seen him do it since 2012. If he's to do it again, he's gonna have to come in more streamlined and sacrifice a little bit of size like he did in 2012, which imo, was one of his best packages ever.
