    DayZ Standalone

    DayZ standalone is very close to being released, its in Close Beta at the moment and the release date is expect March.

    they just released a new update for the mod, and the game is a lot harder now. I cant imagine how difficult standalone is going to be, but im super excited. War Z is a piece of sht and Day Z is so awesome, even though the zombie zig zag all over the place

    zombies can pull you out of cars

    zombies can damage cars now, but glass only. once the glass is destroyed, they will hurt you from inside the car

    blood transfusions have a risk of giving an infection

    Big world, throw in some zombie survival story line, some computer friendlies and that's it.

    the anti-cheat is going to be an assload better than the mod's. you should read up on the server architecture that the standalone is going for. I never ran into a kid playing Day Z, and as far as "phaggots ruining the experience". it's a zombie apocalypse and a dog-eat-dog world. you do what you must to survive

    i WANT to love dayz so bad.

    unfortunately, i can only take so much of its bs.

    start new game. see house. move snail pace, prone, looking around every few seconds so you dont get attacked by a zombie. THUD. you got hit in the head by a zombie from ???? get up, spring for aprox 5 miles. turn around. hes still 11 feet behind you. turn off game. regret wasting money on it.

    so much potential but if the excecution of the standalone is as bad as that arma 2 mod i wouldnt even consider blowing another 30 bucks or however much it will be.

    Its the same engine, expect the same problems as the mod.

    BI develop for the military, I highly doubt a mod team can fix the bugs inherent in the engine. All it really is is a tidier package so that you don't have to deal with mod command lines and a new menu.

    it's using the Take On Helicopters engine and using bits and pieces from the Arma 3 engine, like shading.

    Hate to break it to you brah, but it will use the same netcode, you'll have the same issues as DayZ has right now. Its a slightly modified version of the ARMAII engine with some swapped out menus.

    If you're comfortable with playing DayZ as is then it will be a waste of money. Only difference is ease of use and the ability to purchase it in a neat little package.

    This is what Rocket said about player movements and animations.

    To really fix this we would need to either purchase Euphoria (like GTA uses), or do some radical changes. We are doing radical changes to the following, but they take a long time:
    Created a new entire base skeleton. The existing skeleton is ten years old. And it makes animating and skinning the model difficult, limiting what animators and artists can do. Don't expect this new skeleton to be in the standalone on initial release but in the second half of the year mostly likely.
    Create entirely new animations. More of a band-aid fix and can cause other problems. We are focused far more on removing transitions and allowing fast reaction to controls than on precision in the animations.
    I didn't find it difficult at all moving around the building. Precise movement could be achieved by walking, if needed.
    I hear your point but there is a diminishing returns here. We could focus the entire company on this issue and achieve very little in the short and medium term. It is the same as the issue around ragdoll. I want ragdoll, but it doesn't make sense to focus everything on that when we can innovate in all these other areas.
    So yes, I think DayZ will remain clunky for the near future. But it's going to be clunky awesomeness.

    To be honest any real fan of Day Z doesn't give a **** whether its free or not. They already went through buying Arma II, once they had that taste they were hooked.

    Rocket and co could have made a kick starter page and there isn't a doubt in my mind that they would have had ****ing millions donated to them, I actually don't know why they didn't do that. People were already foaming at the mouth to give cash to get a better quality product, think minecraft when the dev was asking for $10 at very early stages. Something like that could have been done.

    I speak for myself here, I would gladly pay $20-30 to get a better Day Z out there.
