Umm, I thought the NYC subway had really been cleaned up. It must really have been vile in the past.

The main terminals like Grand Central Station and Madison Square Garden have been. But most of the terminals in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and lower Manhattan still are a mess. Smelly and scary when entering the subways. The thing with NY is they will always try and make it look like they are improving, but they only improve the areas where the high tourist traffic is.

I do think some sort of reaching out to kind of smooth things over---a goodwill gesture of sorts to prove you're the better man----a gift basket of Midol, Pamprin, and an ice pack of sorts would do the trick.

I had gotten into a little scuffle at a party some years back. A few family members, friends and people who I work with were witnesses. They did treat me a little differently after that and word got around at work. The rep could have gone the other way though if I was the kickassee...

Yeah, you come to some end-of-the-line stop and its another story. Think they only clean them every 10 years. Even better when you come up onto the street level... I did that a few years ago in Bed Sty Brooklyn... looked like the "after" shots of the Nagasaki blast.

This is something I struggle with. My wife comes from a much different background than me. For me, physical violence is no big deal. I think there are a lot of people in this world that would be better off with a good ol country a$$ whippin. I think there are a lot of people that would act MUCH differently knowing that steppin out of pocket is going to result in that whippin. My wife on the other hand, can't understand why it has to come to blows.

That's how I feel reading this thread. The BIL was an ass but I don't see the justification for physical violence. Give him a verbal dressing down, kick him out, tell him he's not wanted back until he changes his attitude.

Are nieces and nephews involved in the picture? I wouldn't want them out of my life over a remote control issue.

I love this story. I would never do that, but I loved the surprise I got when reading your story. I come from a background where no one ever resorted to violence, but somewhere deep down I wish I had the wherewithal to do that to someone who deserves it. It sounds like it was really the culmination of years of putting up with this ass. Perhaps the most unfortunate thing is that there was a houseful of other guests who felt awkward staying after that (even though some of them were probably secretly happy about what you did).
