Exercise Bike Says Over 900 Calories Burned in a 1/2 Hr.

I used my exercise bike for a 1/2 hr interval, I am at resistance level 5 averaging about 125 - 130 RPM. At the end of the 1/2 hr, the bike's computer states that I burned around 970 calories!!! I know that cannot be right.

Can anyone give me an estimate of how many calories I am burning and what a good formula I can use to determine how many calories I am burning.

    Thanks

A good idea is to track and adjust intake (based on weigh ins) and not concern yourself over expenditure (since it's too hard to get an accurate measure of it).

unfortunately those estimates are just that, computer estimates. the only way to accurately know how many calories you're burning is beyond the scope of the average forum member. Factors such as age, height, sex, weight, body type, body fat percentage, genetics, diet and heart rate all play a part. Ballpark estimate 30 percent in either direction....

monitor your heartrate and estimate off of that if you really want to know. use the google machine for formulas.

thats about as good as you can do without hooking yourself up to a VO2 machine.
