Saw this on the news last night, I thought this had been thoroughly disproven.
"Good news for early risers: New research finds that the A.M. is the best time to hit the gym, before your morning meal. People who work out on an empty stomach burn about 20 percent more fat."
Just curious to see if this consisted of truly "NEW" research, if it was actually done on rats, conditions of study, etc.

Looks like that could be it. Very interesting.
At least they did something to control calorie intake, performed it on real people, etc. Maybe Alan has some comments? There is no spoon.

Breakfast and exercise contingently affect postprandial metabolism and energy balance in physically active males
20% sounds good until you've discovered it was a ~6 gram difference in fat oxidized during exercise. I don't know about you but I'm excited. But those who ate before exercise expended more energy (they all exercised for slightly different durations set in pre testing to expend a projected 693 kcal). Of course a 4 hour acute trial doesn't extrapolate well to long term effects.Last edited by Sarcobium; 02-04-2013 at 02:43 PM.
