wanting to build prostyle fixed barbell like prostyke dumbells possible?

i had a thread a while back talking about building fixed weight barbells and i bought some cold rolled steel like i was told... i just dont like the look of it still but as i was thinking about making prostyle dumbells i thought maybe they sell the same type thing but in a barbell... i looked back at my post and a guy commented he bought some from christian fitness factory...when i called them back then they acted like they had no clue what i was talking about... can you guys offer me any insight into this? when i google it only one thing pops up and its from a chinese website... CFF commented last time(owns or runs Christian Fitness Factory)in my thread so maybe he can return and shed some light but the guy said he bought some for 10 bucks a pop but think maybe he was talking about dumbell handles...anyways, thanks for the input guys

I don't want to make them with cold rolled but for 50$ a bar I might have too... They were 23$ at a sight in china... Maybe CFF will have some... Thanks for the help

It's not worth moving to China. In the USA, two 14" length fixed dumbbell handles will cost around $20-25... for cheap ones. Some fixed dumbbell handles are on clearance on the Ivanko website for $25 but the regular price is about $50-60. Calculating the difference in length for a barbell handle, it seems likely that it will be more expensive.

Will do!! I agree but man you would think with all the people that make their own dumbells people would be all over making their own barbells... Only thing I can gather is MOST people don't care to have a set of fixed weight barbells in their home gym!! And if u are a commercial gym u will just pay the 2k plus to buy a whole set... I would probably pay that to and forgoe the headache of buying bars and weights but I want mine to start at 60 and go to 150!

Just spoke with CFF and Jason told me they don't carry anything like that... He even said in the 3 years he has been working there I'm the second person to even ask him about those... Anyway the search continues........

Thanks. I think you're right about it being mostly a commercial part. Because of the low demand, it might work in your favor just to pick up a set used. I have seen fixed barbell sets on CL and state auctions but not in my area. Of course, that doesn't help if you've already collected the plates. It's a future project for me... distant future if the handles are so costly. I'll post back if I come across anything.

I have been looking for the same thing, seems no one produces a pro style barbell to the individual consumer. I have several that are homemade. They are just standard 1 inch barbells that you would find at any big box store, plates are slid on followed by a large washer, the washer is then welded to the bar. If you want to pretty them up take an angle grinder and cut the excess bar off and make them flush. You can find those 1 inch bars for cheap on craigs, just an idea.

They do not "carry them" but they had used ones. Try searching for the term "Fixed Curl Bar" or "Fixed Barbell"

Sounds like a good idea to me. I've seen used fixed barbell sets from time to time and they seem to go for reasonable prices.
Then you can use the plates that you have collected to make DB's since those handles are easier to come across.

You can buy standard solid bars with smooth ends for pretty cheap. They're already knurled, so you'd just have to measure them, cut them to length, load your plates, and weld some washers to the ends.

I'm not sure that I've got a full run of sizes, and I don't have them on our website. Most are chrome. I could dig them out if you were interested. In the 70's we used to do a B-66 bar (still on our site) but with a fixed collar. So that you'd load the plates on and they'd stand in a rack in 10 increments. And the collar was attached via an allen bolt. I only mention it because I was scanning in some old artwork and came across these things, which pre-date the fixed barbell and ez-curl bars of today.
