it's over-exaggerated. Sure a severe cut can cause hormonal shifts and metabolic slowdown, but you still lose fat. One can up cals and keep his metabolism and hormones more stable and cut longer or go all out and finish sooner, then get back to normalcy. BB'ers in the 70s like Ferrigno would cut on 1,000 cals, just doing whatever it took. It's not a problem. Even PSMF diets of 800 cals are legit. 500 cal deficit is slow and unnecessary.

1750 cals, at least 160 g protein per day. I have a desk job but I still get to the gym at least 3x a week and run 1-3 miles a week lol. I am weighing 185 right now and leaning out slowly but it seems my weight has been relatively stagnant the past 2 mos.

About 2400, I was sure I was at about 2000 until I actually made the effort to accurately count how many calories I was eating, it was pretty surprising.
Fat loss is stalling hard at the moment though, since I've been back at uni I've been pretty inconsistent with my diet, having a cheat day etc.. isn't an option anymore, just a waste of time imo.• Self Development crew.
