Best site to buy a bench press?

similar to this. I don't want any pegs in between the uprights and the rack leg, I always hit those things on the benches that have them.

You're going to get people on this forum (myself included) to tell you that you'd be better served just buying a power rack instead. You also didn't provide any details such as budget.

So, other than a power rack I'll tell you to buy this:

Vmangos bang on the money about getting a power rack and a FID bench. But if you are set on getting a barbell bench I would recommend checking ebay or craigslist for used commercial models. Over here in the UK they are very easy to come across cheaply as most people want dumbbell style benches. If you want new, then I think you'll struggle to find a bench as well specced as that westside bench for that price.

    I agree with the above.

You might be able to get a bench like the above for a few hundreds of pounds, second hand on ebay.

For a new bench, this is the cheapest that you're going to get for a well branded Body Solid item... http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/...h_/7106_p.html

In my opinion and most peoples opinion on here you would be better off getting a FID bench and a power rack when you can afford it.

That way you will be able to use the bench for dumbell work and barbell work.

Those are harder to find than I thought they'd be. I looked at the home equipment manufacturers that I know, New York Barbells, York, Body Solid, etc and all the dedicated bench presses seem to have those extra pegs. Even the adjustable ones I found did. I saw a couple on ebay that were pick up only but in different states. That might be your best bet, looking for an older commercial model on ebay or craigs list.

I actually ordered an R4 rack and a decent weight bench. I am going to wait until I finally get it to confirm for myself, I am almost 100% sure I won't be able to lift the same kind of weight out of the rack as I will with a solid bench press.

Since I want to be able to use my home gym exclusively and not need a commercial gym and I am a powerlifter, the only way it would work for me is if I get a bench press I feel comfortable using.

The Elitefts ones look alright, but they are really expensive and take forever to ship, so i only want to go through them if I have to.

OP use the website to search local craigslists in your area.

    http://www.searchtempest.com/

Lots of people have posted used benches in my particular area that just sit there forever, granted most are weider crap. I have seen several commercial benches around me if that is what you have your heart set on. Otherwise I would look for a power rack like most on here. Good Luck

^^^Nice choice on the Rogue Rack. The Legend bench is very nice. They make them locally here in Knoxville and I have visited there showroom. Very heavy duty stuff. Looks like you know what your looking for. Keep us updated if you order it.

What advantage does a solid bench press have over a power rack in being able to lift more weight?

A weight bench is going to "give" slightly during a set, and unless I buy a separate flat bench only weight bench, its gonna have a hole in the middle where it inclines.

I'm not entirely sure if there are other reasons, but I have benched in a rack before, and it felt very uncomfortable.

Just get a good solid flat bench and use it in the R4. I wouldnt get the Rogue flat bench (i have it and im not very happy w/ it) The bench pad is firm but is not sticky at all.
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website regulary to educate themselves for FREE

    I have contacted him before.

He took forever to reply, and didnt even address my question in his email or get back to me like he said he would.

I would never buy a flat bench that has wide legs on both sides. One side has to have narrow legs so I can put my feet under the seat. I dont know why legit companies even make them that way.

I'm conflicted tbh, I don't want to blow more money on a bench, but if I can bench more on a bench than a rack, its 100% worth it to me, even if its only 10-15 lbs.

Surely any comfort issue would have more to do with the bench pad than the rack, which you have no contact with.

Except for a "breaker bench press" with uprights that pivot forward, the only real differences will be safety (the bench press in your photo has none) and the bench. The bench press in your photo doesn't have the breaker so it comes down to safety and the bench. I also think a good commercial flat bench for your rack is the way to go. You could probably find one reasonably priced on CL or surplus or auction. If you really want a bench press, you might find a commercial press reasonably cheap from those same sources. If you buy new, a commercial flat bench will be much cheaper than a commercial bench press.

    1) The bench feet doesnt get in the way of tucking your feet at all. I have benched it in around 50 times (only had it for a couple months).

    2) 10-15lbs is gonna be worth $600+ to you? thats crazy but to each his own. Come meet day you will bench on a stationary bench and have spotters.
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website regulary to educate themselves for FREE

I'm with morebarbell on this one.

Assuming you use it correctly (by setting the safeties as appropriate), you'll be a lot safer in the power rack than you will on a typical bench press (which lacks safeties). You'll save space, money, and be safer too if you get a quality flat bench to go along with your power rack.

i had them on my porch with my ironmaster bench and my coworker thought i had bought an olympic style bench similar to your original picture. he figured out it was not as he got closer, but these work awesome in bench mode for a stand alone bench.

Most commercial bench presses have the pins in the middle of the upright that I hit on the way up. Any commercial option without that would be okay.

Some people aren't bothered with it somehow, but it takes away about 10% from what I can lift because it destroys my leg stability.

10-15 lbs is a huge difference in terms of long term results when you're lifting weights, its 100% worth it, and in the scheme of things, $600 isn't that much for something that should last my whole life. This home gym will pay for itself in membership fees and gas money within a few years.

Well, like I said, I am definitely going to wait until I get the rack to make sure, but I am not expecting to like benching it. If its fine, I will have no issues.

Safety is more important than comfort, isn't it?

Or will you always have human spotters around when you train using a standalone bench press?

And meh, comfort and safety are pretty equal for me tbh .

Assuming you get a standalone bench press, those safety stands can be placed on either side of the bench to catch the bar before it crushes your neck. They're not as safe as a power rack: 1) they can be tipped over; 2) moving one or the other slightly might mean that they're no longer in position to catch the bar; 3) depending on the failure, you may miss these safeties altogether.

I've also found that the legs of the safety stands will sometimes interfere with the structure of the bench, thus preventing optimal placement.

However, if you don't have a power rack, or refuse to bench in it for some reason, they're better than no safeties at all.

If you are really picky and want a specialty item, you have no choice but to
1- Order what you want at whatever lead-time
    2- Pay what it costs.

Everything else is just a compromise and you wont like it in the end.

If you want a bench press, just buy a bench press. EFTS one looks nice, and get the face-saver attachment as a worst-case scenario. But its very expensive.

I use a flat bench in a power rack, it feels 100% the same to me as a dedicated bench press.

Elite FTS had a basic bench press for 675$ plus shipping, up to 1400$ plus shipping...

I honestly double those would stay in place if I violently failed a rep, but maybe they would be worth it, idk.

I don't miss reps almost ever. Last time I failed a rep was last September if I recall correctly.

I have the same concerns, but if they save your life, they're worth it.

Have you seen this bench from Rogue?

Get one of these styles for inside the rack...one front foot and its narrow. SNP makes a nice one with 2x2 tubing and a special grip pad and Im sure its less than the big name benches.

But maybe its not for you...I dont know any cheap alternatives to what you want...

I was actually considering buying that, but I'm scared that when I get it that it will be really uncomfortable to bench in.

I do need a new weight bench now too, because the bodysolid that was delivered today was damaged, and it looked terrible quality overall.

Weird given that that bench got generally positive reviews on this site.
