oh no bro, im not arguing either....
but IMO, there is no need to count calories of the 300g of broccoli that is being consumed by the original thread starter. with all the protein we eat, we need fiber to process it all. who has gotten fat off veggies? who hasnt gotten ripped off veggies? the only time where I remove or count/monitor my veggies consumption is during the first 3 days of the FINAL week leading upto a show. during my carbup stage, i cut veggies/fillers OUT. no need to be full, and i leave all my calories for fat, carbs and protein. i really leave none for veggies/fibers.
to me, veggies are fillers. nothing more. when i wnat to be full, ill add more veggies. think of it as the foam/torn paper that fills the shipment packages you get in the mail. they dont count that as part of the weight of the packageNPC BODYBUILDER / ISSA Certified Personal Trainer/Nutrition Specialist

I'm being strict with a cutting diet, but I barely estimate the calories that I consume from the veggies (I don't care about macros in them, though).
For example, if I eat a pepper, I would 'count' those 30 kcals, or if I eat a cucumber I would 'count' those 80 kcals. I mean, I think about those calories, but I don't care too much either.
Sometimes, when I really feel hungry, I go and eat 400g/500g of broccoli, and I don't care about those 120-150 kcal, because a lot of them are coming from fiber, and anyways, at the end of the day those extra calories won't make me gain any fat.
I eat veggies once or twice a day. Maybe 100-150 kcal a day coming from veggies. Will it make a difference if I'm in a calories deficit of -500 just with the diet? (without counting cardio, lifting, etc). I don't think so.

Agree count them.
Put it this way....
300 grams raw broccoli is 1f 20c 9p about 100kcals. A week that is 700kcals, a month 2800kcals, and in a 4 month prep about 3 pounds. That can be the difference from good conditioning, to GREAT WTF conditioning. I know with me the changes that happen from 163 to when I break 160 are insane really.
So to put it simply, don't let a actually a very simple, but very important thing stop you from looking your best. Also the whole idea that some foods require more energy to digest than their net worth is a bit off. Most of the thermic effect you get from food is from protein, not so much the fibery veggies.100% Natural Bodybuilding!

Obviously each of you is "gettin it done" whichever direction you choose. I would imagine that when push comes to shove as long as you are consistent in method and you make the appropriate changes in prep based on your progress the end result should be the same.
Now I need to go over to the "You know you are in a pre-contest diet when..." and fill it with a post that says "you debate with fellow contenders about the mathematics in broccoli."

What if I dont count any of my cals?? LOL
I personally dont count the kcals in veggies...to me its a waste. I concentrate more on the kals of the meat, fat and/or complex carbs I take in.
I guess if you were eating an ungodly amount of veggies, I can see worrying about it....
But hey, this is just my way of doing things....and my way is definitely a lot different than others.
My main philosophy is keep it simple. No need to stress on the 20cals of brocolli you are consuming in that meal...and I certainly wouldnt minus some important protien cals because you are adding in your veggies...."What is obsessive for one, is the bare and shameful minimum for another"

Interesting to see different viewpoints. My new logic = if it is metabolized by the body, count it. Got that from a Dr.Joe article, I believe
