Feedback on Websites
I have been working on two websites and am trying to decide which one I want to use and connect with a domain name.
One is made at wix.com and one is wordpress.com/
I just wanted to get some feedback and see which one looks best/most professional before I invest money on hostin, domain name, etc. The images are pretty stock, but I intend to eventually update them with some of my own.
Any feedback on things I should consider changing would be welcome as well.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the Wix one is certainly my favorite. It will cost a good bit more than the wordpress one, but it may be worth it.

I prefer the way you've laid out the Wix one. Haven't read content, just prefer the lay-out.
Why would wix cost more? A domain name is a domain name, no?

Thanks, the Wix version is definitely my favorite! Wix would cost about $99 per year, which includes free domain name, hosting, ad vouchers, analytics, etc. + removal of all the wix ads. I have heard a lot of good things about Wix, too.
The Wordpress would cost me around $21 just to get a domain name and use it.

Ah right, cool. I was completely broke when I started on my website so just went with wordpress and never even looked at Wix.
Will get a proper website done in a year or so, I think...just found it loads of hassle messing about with site design, layout, SEO etc

Wix makes it really easy to design nice looking websites, and they seem to get much better reviews than places like godaddy. But yeah, even $99 is a lot for me to spend right now, so I'm hoping it will pay off.

I'm thinking of leaving WIX with all the problems they have been giving me. But with that said, their design is unbeatable. And the cost is worth it as it pays for itself in the first year with all the SEO benefits they provide.

Just curious...what kind of problems have you had with Wix?

whats most important unless you have to startup money already in place, its best to make money first, and invest it into your company so you can make more.
I think this idea is great. Id eventually try to get some videos of yourself instead of bob harper because its promoting his stuff on your site, which is fine for a beginner, eventually though, your own videos to help promote yourself. this make sense?

Thanks for the feedback, John! Yeah, that makes perfect sense. At the very least I am going to make an introductory video for my website. I just ordered a cheap tripod for the iphone, so when that comes in I will experiment with recording and editing some videos.

After doing some research and reading reviews of wix, I decided to scratch that site and modify the original wordpress site I started. It looks like I can get everything going for under $20, so that's way better than investing $99 at this point. If anyone has any feedback on the modifications I've made to the wordpress site, I would appreciate it.

I think that site is fine. remember when you make money to reinvest at least some of it back into your business to keep it growing so it can make more money for you (which you then keep reinvesting and growing it bigger and bigger)

You can do an awful lot with wordpress.
Get your domain name off a domain name seller such as cheapnames.com or godaddy (just don't use godaddy for hosting, they suck). Then host with a proper hosting company such as hostgator, bluehost etc.

Thanks for the feedback, klaery! I'm relatively satisfied with the wordpress site I have created. I'm about to purchase the domain name on godaddy and then figure out where to host this site.

Good stuff man. Keep us updated on how it goes. I have been working on my own site too and made the mistake of hosting at godaddy. That's how I know they suck for hosting. Soooooo slow. I'm in the process of moving over to hostgator now.
My site is www.thewittyparrot.com if you want a look. Beginning stages now and nothing to do with exercise or fitness haha. I am constantly getting stuck and asking others for help, i know how daunting it is at the start.. Let me know if I can help you at all.

Good work - couple of suggestions (which you might have already planned):
1. Testimonials on homepage
2. Big call to action button e.g. "Book an introductory free session" - basically you want people to take action on the site (generate leads)
Hope that helps

That helps a lot, gymproaleks! I don't have any testimonials yet, but I will definitely plan to add that section soon.

Yeah, I have purchased my domain to go with the Wordpress site I designed; now I just need to pick a hosting service. Wix was just not worth the $99 once I read about the problems supermant11 and MANY others I've had. I should have this site : http://jaxpersonaltraining.wordpress.com up and running as louisjacksonfitness.com sometime this week!

I'm about to go on a murderous rampage. Upon further searching, WIX does a helluva job covering their tracks. I did a little google search via my iPhone and there are pages and pages and pages of "My website doesn't work" linked to WIX, even some as new as yesterday and when you click on it, the pages no longer exist. So, I think it would be safe to assume they are deleting the problems so others won't see them. Any ways, not to steal your thunder Original. I'm out of options as WIX definitely looked the best in terms of program and website development. I might have to pay someone now as my design skills don't go that deep. I was relying on a computer class I took 11 years ago with basic HTML on windows 98 lol

I'm glad you (and me!) at least avoided spending $100 a website with so many issues. It's money you can save to apply to something that will work. I loved the look of my wix page, but it just wasn't worth all of the potential problems I read about.
My current wordpress page isn't fancy, but it works and isn't going to break my bank account.

Just wordpress right now and I haven't mapped my new domain name to the site. I'm leaning toward going with hostgator, which would cost me around $67 per year for the most basic package. It's a little bit more than I would like to pay to host a simple Wordpress site, but Hostgator gets overwhelmingly positive reviews so I'm willing to pay a little bit more for better customer service.

Go daddy is great too. I just signed up for that one. If you still plan on using hostgator, use coupon code "yougator30" and you'll get 25% off. On a side note, you have a PM awaiting your viewing pleasure.

Thanks!! That coupon will help out A LOT! And thanks for the PM! I've got a couple of clients to train here in an hour, so I'll reply to you tonight when I get back home. BTW, I thought about doing the $1.99 per month hosting at GoDaddy, but since I've heard so much mixed feedback on their service, I didn't. I might have to do some more research on it though.

I found godaddy to be absolutely horrible for hosting and there interface sucks. Check out the other reviews on them
I did a reverse IP lookup to see why my site was so slow... On godaddy shared hosting I was hosted on single server with over 700 other websites. That is not a typo. After research I found it was not rare to be on a single server with up to 2000 shared sites. Pretty appalling and totally unacceptable.
Just did if for my hostgator account that I have just switched over to. Only sharing with 150 sites. Pretty good.
