    Can curl a 20kg olybar easier than a 20kg pre-loaded bar, what?

    Hey all

My gym has these small preloaded bars, I was curling a 20kg oly bar a few weeks ago, but I noticed they had smaller 20kg preloaded bars the week after and so I decided to try and curl that but i just couldnt hack it

    what gives?

You sure that oly bar was 20kg? Some look the same but are different weights.

Is that pre-loaded bar an EZ bar vs a straight OLY bar?

You want someone to explain to you how 20kg doesn't = 20 kg?

Or am I missing something, OP?

Are the bars the same length? Are they the same width? Both these factors can be the difference.

i have always felt those pre loaded barbells to be "heavier".

A mix of length of the bar and thickness of the bar I would say.

    Yeah, how's the bar thickness?

Also, do the plates rotate on the bar? That could make a difference.

I tried DB bench pressing 2 60 lb dumbbells the other day, and it was way harder than BB bench pressing a 45 lb. bar with 2 35 and 2 2 1/2 lb plates!!! What's going on here?

You will only lift more with barbell beacuse you have more stability , and involves both hands . (e.g if you can BB 80kgx8 , you probably don't be able to DB 40kg x8 )
