Is it a good idea to do squats then leg press on the same day?

I was wondering if It was a good idea to do squats then leg press in the same day? Is there a negative effect of doing both and doing them both very hard?

It is most definitely fine, if you know what you're doing. Just remember which ever one you put last will suffer, you will not be able to put as much as you could of done into the that lift if you did it fresh.

Absolutely bro. I do Leg Press after Front and Back Squats. Of course you won't hit Leg Press to your full potential but do lower weight and high reps.

I've always felt like leg press is over rated as a compound exercise. It's a good exercise, but doesn't compare to squats, RDL's, or lunges. But you can absolutely do them in the same workout. I start with squats, then lunges or RDL's, and then I'll do Leg Press 3rd before going to isolation exercises.

I think a lot of people just like doing leg press so much because they can stack more plates on and feel macho. Then of course they have to leave all those plates on for someone else to take off. Always annoying.

Agreed with mike, leg press is okay but stick to primal movement patterns and not fixed ranges of motion for extended periods of time. Squats, deadlifts, chins, the basics and you can get a strong and muscular physique that way. And put the most neurologically complex exercise at the beginning of the workout, so squats first, then isolation exercises.

Yeah this. I do squats first because my squats need a lot more work and they're more taxing on the body overall (CNS).

I do squats for five sets of five, then do leg press for three sets of fifteen, I finish up with leg curls and GHD three sets each, then calves. Sometimes I'll substitute hack squats or trapbar DL for the leg press.
Now OK for Sig line to be a novel

Leg press is more of a quad isolation then standard squats. It would be a good idea to do them after a main compound such as back squats.

Leg presses are a good way to finish a leg workout. After squats, or deads I am hurting. The leg press let's me give max effort to finish with relative safety. It really focuses on leg strength also.

I do squats, lunges, leg extensions, then calves on my legs days. I'd exclude leg presses and add lunges in my opinion. Lunges focus a lot more on your glutes which can benefit you on your deep squats (the ones that count).

use leg press as pre-exhaustion exercise before the squat. Will rip up your quads and make the hams and glute work more on squats.

If your training goal is to have the legs of a bodybuilder, it's an excellent idea.

Is there a negative effect of doing both and doing them both very hard?
None that I'm aware of as long as you maintain good form on all sets.
