in the gym religiously for about 12 years and just started doing crossfit in the last few months. it's kinda funny being on "both sides" now but i can tell you that if you work at a competitive crossfit gym with good coaches, the gains are unreal. I'm leaner and stronger than I've ever been vs just regular weight training. i'm seeing steady increases in strength almost weekly. i still get to the gym to train a couple times a week however.
fwiw...there are several douchy crossfitters and people that have no f'ing clue what they're going BUT i can also find hundreds of videos of gym rat douchers fuking up all sorts of lifts at the gym too.

Just out of curiosity, would you rather have a sniper that has almost perfect accuracy yet isn't really good at all at disarming bombs, knows next to nothing about flying a helicopter and is pretty crappy at kipping pullups, or a sniper who is decent at everything but not really great at anything?
Grunts are jack of all trades, specialization is where excellence happensIt'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. It might be impressive in the short run, but in the long run it just doesn't make any sense. ~breathinglife
