Give a guy who's trying to Walkon for D1 Football your opinion
I'm trying out for football. UH Manoa as a walkon. Had several issues medically stopping me from training consistently. very off and on.
today is the first day in the field in 3 weeks. very out of shape feeling. The combine is on the 15th of Feb. I want to know what my chances even look like solely based on my combine stats as of right now. and what i aim for it to realistically be by the combine. which is in 19 days.
GOING FOR WIDE RECEIVER! PLAYED ONLY ONE YEAR IN HS.
ILL STRESS MY ONLY CONCERN IS HOW THE COACHES WILL REACT TO STATS IN COMBINE....in other words i dont want YOU to be concerned with how i play on the field. thats my problem. what i want you misc to talk about are these stats...
40yd dash: 4.5 (current) (did 4.4 over 3 weeks ago. hoping to get it back to 4.4 flat....)
Vert: 36inches. today is 1st time testing it. im 190 lbs. 6'0.5 . not sure if thats very good or bad. wanting to get 38+ on combine day...
Broad jump: NEVER tested this until today...9ft. 10 inches. hoping to break 10ft at least.
20yd pro shuffle: no official time. still trying to get that down.
225lb Bench: Could do 225 x 9 before. now its a lot less...maybe 5..due to chest pain problems. wanting to get it to atleast 8 reps..im hoping a low 225 reps will not hugely affect chances.
idk brahs i have doubts. but i feel like i can work with 19 days. gonna be hard...

You can do anything you want to dude. Work your ass off and be confident in your abilities to come back and be in good shape. If you don't you will regret it even if you don't make it you'll never know. Work your ass off and do it regardless of where you're at now and at the time. Put 110% into anything you do and you'll never fail.
Coaches love anyone that puts their heart, sweat, and blood into it. If you show them that you are willing to work your ass off they may keep you around.
Goals for summer of 2013:
DL: 650
Bench: 450
Squat: 500

It's going to be hell and you'll get no respect, especially if your bench is indicative of your strength.

what if its for a widereceiver position? i mean i dont see a huge significance in bench. but i do understand its importance for the position

What do you have to lose? Go for it m8.
Edit: Your stats are okay for a WR DB position. Do it or you'll regret it forever.

played 1 year in HS. my main lifts have severly suffered these past 3 weeks. but i could DL 375 x5 and squat 315x5. But it has definetly gone down. Im not sure what im supposed to expect as far as what happens after the combine. because those 5 test i mentioned are what theyre focusing on. IF they are impressed the least bit...is there some other test or something? what else would happen?

All the guys on there are the cream of the crop where talent is concerned. Those numbers don't mean **** if you can't play. We got tons of 4 star recruits that had amazing numbers, but just couldn't play at the college level.

those 40 yard dashes are electrically timed. no offense, but i doubt u run anywhere close to a 4.4 electric

and im aware. thats not my main concern right now. my concern is getting the coaches attention in these test (not the bench obviously..) so i can SHOW them how i play on the field. its not like i can tell you over a computer how i play. thats for them to look at. again, the concern im having now is are my current stats (any of them) enough for them to look at and like...

It depends. We had hell week. So I started with 64 other guys and by the last day there was 12 left and they picked 3 of us to join the team.
They could do the combine have you max and then have you run routes, do their conditioning test.. You never know.
What's your 40 laser timed

witty comment goes here
whilst bench is a poor indicator of ability and carry over for the role. Your bench is very poor for your heigh, weight and level of sport you want to play. I could do 10 at 170.
Try and get a powerlifter to help you with form as most people can get an extra 3 out with form improvements. I think Joe Defrenco done a feature on maxing your combine

here in HAwaii they dont have pro teams. the entire island is focused on college football and UH is basically their NFL team. it's that serious here
