Alright so I just turned 17, I'm 5' 10" and am standing at 115 pounds. Reason being because I had a small eating disorder where for about 6 months I had slowly been reducing calories until I was only eating about 1000-1200 a day for a month. I dropped from about 135 pounds to now 115. About 3 weeks ago I decided it was time for a change and have started eating more. I'm now consuming about 2000-2200 a day. I lift three times a week, doing the major lifts (squats, bench, shoulder press, rows, etc.) and I also ride my bike for about 30 minutes 2-3 times a week, because I want to keep my cardio somewhat okay. I was about 111 pounds when I decided to boost calories. The first week I gained about 1 and a half pounds and the next week I gained 2 and a half pounds. I realize that my weight is going to boost up due to water retention but how much for how long. My diet has been pretty spot on with 40/40/20. I don't feel like eating only 2000-2200 a day is enough for bulking. I've been pretty skinny all my life and for a teenager that just seems too little of calories to be gaining that much. I need some advice about how much I should be eating and just some all around tips.

You were at a caloric deficit for a relatively long time. This likely made your metabolism really clunky, lowering your BMR. You might be taking in too many calories right now considering your long deficit.
Note all the might's, I'm not a professional.Beginning on 3rd of December.

Every body is different, weigh yourself every morning before you have eaten and keep your calories at 2200 and see if you gain weight. I am 120 pounds and i eat 2700 calories a day causing me to gain about a pound of week, so i would probably try increase your calories a bit. Let the mirror be the judge eat as much as possible!

Your eating disorder meant your caloric intake was very low for 6 months, naturally to survive your body lowered your metabolic rate so you required less calories.
When you were eating 1000-1200 calories what you should have done is reverse dieted by increasing your intake to 1500, then adding around 10%-15% of this every two weeks (or as you felt necessary) Till you got to over 2,200 at a stable and consistent rate.
Naturally when you went to 2,200 your body felt a need to increase your fat stores as a means of future protection which is it's main focus, however your bodies metabolic rate was still only around 1,200 calories which would have lasted for several weeks and slowly increased over time, as you didn't employ the reverse dieting technique you experienced rapidly gaining weight, due to the fact you were actually eating up to 1,000 calories more than your metabolic rate.
I'm glad you have overcome your eating disorder, good luck in future, I hope this post has helped you in some way.Last edited by JaimeViegas; 02-01-2013 at 02:36 PM.
