Back Squats. Zercher squats and stationary lunges hit the lower body better imo.

Squats. They are a great exercise and should be at the core of any leg workout, but they are overhyped so much.

I love 15-degree incline dumbbell presses. Probably the best chest exercise bodybuilding-wise, in my opinion.

I meant I didn't want to (earlier) because I was on different strength programmes for the past two years. Now I am back on a hypertrophy (upper/lower) split, and I'm going to start doing the incline DB press instead of the barbell variant, since I don't care about my bench going up.

    EDIT
When I started lifting seriously, the incline DB press was always in my routine. It's only towards the end of 2010 that I started focusing on the bb bench press. That's how I know it works for me.

Squats are overrated? Not sheriff serious, or just retarded.

But apparently an exercise that produces great lower body results is overrated..

The thing is, to me ALL exercises can be good if used properly. Any exercise that allows you to handle moderately to extremely heavy weight is worth doing with a little regularity IMO.

Things start getting stupid when people insist that such-and-such exercise is the KING OF ALL EXERCISES and MUST be done with obsessive focus.

There's always the Rippletits crowd and the low bar squat. Another good example is the fat internet powerlifter crowd and squat/bench/dead, and also the form****/wannabe old time strongman crowd and their obsession with the "strict heels together military press." That kind of military press is retarded and doesn't allow you to lift sh*t because of all of the mechanical disadvantages involved; it requires you to spend more energy stabilizing the friggin' weight than simply putting a large weight overhead.

Generally speaking, if there's a trend revolving around anything it probably sucks. Not a single lifter any of us looks up to does any of these damned programs people pass around here. Instead, they do what works for them - which ends up being a hodgepodge of all kinds of crap.

    c0ck pushups....

o wait, i thought you said UNDERRATED

on a srs note, i've found both conventional deads and back squats (both low and high bar) to be great in helping me gain size, though i supplement both with other exercises. i gave up flat benching a while ago in favor of decline though, which was a smart move for bodybuilding purposes.

    Great points!

it's the way that it's promoted by most...it's great for legs, but most people will tell you that squats make you big all over....they don't. doing all you major compounds will make you big all over, not doing just one of them.

    and...

    Standing Overhead Press

Ussually placed in the conversation of most important compound exercises (immediately after squat, bench, deads). Often considered a main lift in many beginner and intermediate programs.

The further I advance, the less this lift seems to be sooo important for strength OR hypertrophy progress and carryover.

That being said, I still have an entire day programed around this lift and I'm about to go slaughter that workout in a few hours.. but.. I wonder if there isn't a better main lift to base an entire day around..

I love doing standing calf raises, I hate seated, though. I don't know why the other guy thinks they look ridiculous.

I usually do a controlled eccentric, pause at the bottom to stretch out the muscle and to avoid bouncing, then explode up and contract my calves for a second, repeat.

Why do you have a whole day programmed around the lift? Seems a bit wasteful, in my opinion. I don't find overhead presses very beneficial, but I love doing them, nonetheless.
