Simple as that. Men are goal oriented creatures. Take the drive to achieve goals outside of real life, and they will just pursue it elsewhere, in video games. What motivation does this generation of men have to do anything great in this life when they see the world literally crumbling around them and opportunities vanishing into thin air?

Politicians are to blame for this, not video game/porn companies. This was hardly an issue 10 years ago, and both industries had long been established by then as well. This is an economic, borderline discrimination, issue.

The ability to "live out" (via fantasy) of what we label deviant behavior is directly linked with a reduction of the actual behavior occurring in society. Our ability to fantasize is so powerful that our subconscious is nearly unable to differentiate it from reality (this is why fantasy is so fun in the first place, and why practicing a speech at home before the one in class is effective, etc..)

A quick easy way to test this on yourself is the imagining a lemon test. You'll find your body reacting to your imagination when you clearly understand it's not actually real. Now, if you have a desire which strictly violates social norms, then you either repress that desire or find a way to act upon it. Porn is the method of choice since it has the greatest benefit coupled with the least amount of risk.

Just ask any maths geek, physics geek etc who study all the time, we all know the stereotype, the Sheldon Cooper stereotype. Although not as extreme as Sheldon, it certainly rings some truth.
