Weightlifting shoes carry over to the field

I may or may not be thinking too much into this...

But I was looking into buying some weightlifting shoes to help improve my squat. I usually just squat in my socks, when squatting in my runners my form feels stronger and just more comfortable. Main reasoning behind me squatting barefoot/socks is because I play rugby and our boots/cleats and little to no heel. So my thinking is, if i'm playing in boots with no heel, wouldn't the carry over to the field be greater if I squatted with no heels?

I think I may just be crazy, but any input would be great!

I would recommend not wearing Olympic lifting shoes. If you can't squat well flat footed there is probably an issue with your mobility that should be fixed. My only exception to that is if somehow your lower leg is much shorter than your upper leg.

You may want to switch to a front or goblet squat for a month or two month, until your form cleans up.

While I agree with 99% of what jonmd123 posts, sometime ankle mobility is something that is just limited in some people. Reference Arnold Schwarzenegger, he could never squat flat footed. It can also help avoid butt wink, which is worse than lifting with raised heels.

Personally I can front squat very well barefoot but can not back squat without the shoes very well. It might be some minor issue that I can fix, but to me this is one of those 1% issues. If youre strong with shoes, youre strong without those shoes. Squat with the weightlifting shoes, then go out and sprint and beat the sled to learn how to use that strength. There, you now have carryover.
